  • So I saw hundreds, if not thousands of women in New York City this week.

Very few were modestly dressed.  One stood out was a tall and handsome young oriental woman at the Metropolitan museum of art.

I noticed many t-shirts.  They are not conducive to modesty.

the most amusing thing I saw was a woman pushing a stroller while nursing a baby across the crosswalk.  I thought I was just looking at a baby until it was too late . . .

The idea of a woman crossing a busy intersection in Manhattan while nursing a baby does make the impracticality of combining urban and family life pretty obvious.

I was happy to escape that place.

It took an hour and $13 to cross the bridge to get in, but fortunately it's easy enough to get out.

I also ran into a Jєω named Max at Columbia.

    No, different one.

  • You won't find much morality in New York City, that's for sure.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • The "chaplain" of Columbia University is a black woman.

It's very ironic that their Alma Mater song is Haydn's God save the Kaiser.

I had to struggle not to break out with Deutschland Ueber Alles.

I love the City for her fantastic choice of cuisine, for her ready access to classical culture, and because being a chronic insomniac in the city that never sleeps is a match made in practicality heaven.  Otherwise, it's a cesspool, and all the worse during the summertime.  Did you enjoy the smell wafting up through the subway grates?

  • The smell at the bridge hit me hard until I adjusted to it.

Yes, the Metropolitan museum of art was fantastic.  No wonder you see the same pictures online and on tv shows over and over again, so many of them are there.  And there were actually a very few modestly dressed women there.

  • The only trad chapel I've been to was not welcoming to nursing mothers either.

I can't imagine nursing while crossing an intersection or walking, but I always needed to use my hands. Even in a city you can sit down on a pavement or bus stop if necessary  or go into a place to eat and just order a drink.

  • I'm a Manhattanite and I wear t-shirts in July and August, when the heat and humidity become unbearable.

I suppose I could wear long sleeve during the dog days if it was made out of a light fabric like muslin.

I haven't been out of the city in so long that I've become accustomed to its odor.

  • I live in New York City, but not in Manhattan. I live in Queens. I go into Manhattan on Sundays because that is where the SSPX chapel is. There are so many immodestly dressed women there that I have to look down, especially in the summer. On the subway and walking down the streets.

  • The sure sign of a tourist is someone shocked, amazed, or scandalized!  While I do not think it wise or modest to walk-while-nursing, I wouldn't give seeing another do it a second thought.  But maybe I've lived here too long!  By the way, I don't wear t-shirts or dress immodestly, even in the summer.  Nobody gives me a second glance, either.

  • It would have been nice to walk the streets of Manhattan during 1910, or even 1930.

  • In 1910 the 1930s clothing would have been scandalous.  Would Pope St. Pius X have approved of it?  Yet, compared with "flapper" of the 1920s, 1930s clothing was step towards modesty!  Our Lady warned in 1917 of the COMING worldly fashions.  Perhaps Catholics should look to 1917 as a cut-off date with regard to degree of coverage and tightness in judging what is or is not acceptable for Catholics--women and men alike!
