  • No property has been found yet but the search continues. A property could of been found earlier but it would have meant taking a repossessed home. This will never be done.

Also a man interested in the project hasn't been well. Another is trying to get a similar project in Knock, Co. Mayo. A geographical location has not been agreed upon. Also, one man interested in the project got married and another  is getting married.

It is not a scam and naturally all money collected will be accounted for. No money has been collected yet.

At this stage what is been sought are prayers and Catholic men willing to live in the house.

The budget is €80,000. The plan is to purchase a property under €80,000.

The website doesn't give a lot of information, what exactly is this project?

Basically a few Catholic men have expressed an interest in living in a property. One idea is either to purchase a property that needs refurbishment as the men will work. Womenfolk are also welcome to assist. Refurbishing a property will be much harder but all part of the sacrifice. The second option is to purchase a property with minimum need to rebuild but people would still be needed to plant vegetables and other tasks.

The idea has to be developed. The project had to be put on hold as I have been rather busy and others faced trials.

Also one man, who was interested is getting married  so not sure if he can commit.

Also I am not willing to purchase a dwelling that was repossessed.

  • The project being discussed near Knock, Co. Mayo is not my project and personally do not favour the location. I don't feel it is the correct place.

One thing under consideration is buying land and dividing up and a person would buy a plot.

  • It's an idea that a few of us have had and hope to put into reality. Where possible Catholics should go back on the land. Hopefully it will inspire others.

  • I think the Back to the Land movement is an idea whose time has come.  We have spent centuries trying to separate ourselves from the dirt we were formed from and it has had unpleasant consequences.

Moving back to the land would help everyone regain some sanity, there is something very healing in being close to God's good earth.

My wife and I are already doing a "rural project" of our own -- trying to maintain 5 kids and 5 acres!

So we're very much in favor of the "back to the land" movement.

  • Hmm, this reminds me of the Catholic Homesteading Movement folks.

Any connection to any of those folks?

    Sincerely,

How very fortunate you are to have 5 acres.  What are you growing?

Have you seen this website? Urban Homestead, they are in Pasadena, CA.  Amazing.

  • There have a number of new enquiries regarding the project. The problem now is with everything else happening, can time be devoted to it. A good complaint is to have too much on.
