  • St. Julie Billiart
Saint Julie was a woman completely immersed in God’s love and goodness, even in the midst of great suffering. She was a woman of vision who responded to the needs of the suffering world around her.
Born in Cuvilly, France, on July 12, 1751, Julie lived a humble life in a loving family. She was a woman of serenity, despite the great personal suffering she endured. The Billiart family survived many hardships, including the deaths of several children. When Julie was 16, she went to work to help support her family. At the age of 23 she became paralyzed by the trauma of a shooting that was aimed at her father. She spent more than 20 years confined to her bed, unable to care for even her most basic needs.
Besides her physical pain, Julie suffered religious persecution, lived in hiding as a refugee. Throughout her suffering, she steadfastly trusted in God’s goodness. At the age of 53, Julie and her very good friend, Françoise Blin de Bourdon, along with two other women, made their vows as Sisters of Notre Dame in Amiens, France. A variety of difficult circuмstances caused her to move her congregation to Namur, Belgium, several years later. Today these sisters are known as the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Julie’s spirit and charism also influenced the Sisters of Notre Dame of Amersfoort, The Netherlands, as well as our own congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame, which began in Coesfeld, Germany.
Julie reached out to the poor and forgotten, she brought comfort and hope to those around her, she encouraged faith in the seeking and the lost. More than anything else, she was a witness to the deep, loving goodness of God. Her motto and mantra was: “Oh, how good God is!” In 1969 Julie was named a saint by the Catholic Church. The impact that Saint Julie had on the world continues through the life and ministry of the sisters who share in her heritage.

  • Poche, what you are posting has nothing to do with feminism. Are you going to label every female saint a feminist? YOu are only causing more confusion in people's minds.

DO you even know what feminism is?

  • Right.  That’s like saying that St Don Bosco was a good communist because helped the poor.  It makes no sense.  Feminism is evil.  Communism is evil.  Don’t try to “rescue” these terms by giving them a positive spin.  Reject them outright and preach catholic femininity and catholic charity.

  • If you say you are a feminist than you are not following Christ natural order for the family. Catholic women can not be feminist, and say they are following God’s natural order/law. It’s very, very simple.

It’s strange how many women say “oh I’m a proverbs 31 woman, and anti feminist” but their very lives contradict it. (Not speaking of the wonderful women here) it’s like settle down lady ... before you boast proverbs 31 start reading Titus 2. (Which all Catholic female saints are)

    Indeed.

I've seen this trend, though, in the Novus Ordo to use "clickbait" titles like this. It's not accidental either, but essential -- because the whole crux of Vatican II is opening up to the Modern World. And what is the hallmark of the modern world? Distraction and dissipation. So you have short attention spans, mass media, headlines, advertising, and all that.

Once you've climbed on the Modern World bandwagon, you have to sell your wares like any other corporation seeking mindshare from end-users or consumers: you have to advertise. Use clever slogans. Use shocking, unexpected (the opposite of what's expected) or click-bait headlines. And so on.

Just look at Pope Francis! He does this ALL. THE. TIME.

When people aren't paying attention to you, you have to get their attention.

I would suggest that we need to redefine what feminism really means.

No! You define it, then your delusions can be pointed out to you.

I think that the first two examples of women religious could do for a start.

They are not definitions. They are examples of women religious who are not feminist. Neither do they advocate or promote feminism.
    Give your definition of feminism.

  • Stop playing games, Poche.  Others in this thread have set you straight.

Feminism is a tactic used by eternal enemies of the Catholic Church to bring unhappiness to women and use this unhappiness to destroy her chances at finding a husband and then becoming a mother.  Feminism is a distortion of a woman's nature.

You can't beat Satan by using Satan's tools against him.  He'll laugh hysterically as he turns you into one of his tools.

  • Providing examples of edifying women has nothing to do with feminism.

You're obviously trying to be clever by broadening the term, but it's a fail.

  • Feminism:
    Quote
the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.

There is in fact a true Catholic "feminism".

    It's all about distinctions.

Men and women are in fact equals in the order of grace, but they are not equals in the order of nature.

In the order of grace, St. Paul to the Galatians 3:28:
    Quote
... there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

So, for instance, if there were some weird sect that had spun off from the Traditional movement which declared that women should not be admitted to the Sacraments due to their "inferiority", then I would, relative to that, be a feminist, and take up the feminist cause vis-a-vis their reception of the Sacraments.

In the order of grace, there is no male human person who is superior to Our Blessed Mother ... despite the fact that men are superior to women in the natural order.  In fact, angels are superior to human beings in the natural order, but in the order of grace, Our Lady surpasses them all.  There are many women who surpass many men with regard to glory in heaven.  There are many lay people who are holier than many priests, with many priests to be found even in hell.

In a lot of ways, Our Lord was in fact a feminist.  Contrary to the prevailing Jєωιѕн custom, Our Lord did allow women to follow Him closely as quasi-disciples.  He spoke of St. Mary Magdalene (after St. Martha complained) as sitting at His feet as a disciple would.  He elevated women to their rightful dignity as intended by God.  Recall also that it was for Eve's role in Original Sin that women were punished with subjection to men, and Our Lord came precisely to undo the effects of that Sin (even if some of its effects remained).

I am not trying to broaden the term. I am trying to change its meaning.
