Parvez Henry Gill, a Pakistani Christian businessman, is paying for the construction of a 140-foot-high cross in Karachi, the nation's largest city, to encourage Christians to remain there despite persecution and discrimination.
The cross, which he says will be the largest in Asia, is made of iron, cement, and steel.
“Gill said his friends have expressed concern about his safety, urging him to frequently change his vehicles and travel routes,” The Washington Post reported. He “said he leaves questions about his personal safety to Psalm 91 of the Bible, which promises protection to believers.”
