  • So I'm on vacation with my family and we decide to go out to eat at a local family restaurant that is known for good food and service. At some point in the evening we notice that a "bachelorette party" had been seated near our table. There was a girl with a bridal veil at the head of the table. It had flashing neon lights attached to it.

There were helium balloons attached to the bachelorette's chair in full view of everybody. At least one of these balloons (possibly more) had the obscene drawing of male private parts on it. There was also an older woman sitting at the table, perhaps one of their mothers!

We had two little kids there eating and we were with friends who had 3 more kids between them. My wife went up to the manager and let him know that she didn't think these images were appropriate for a family restaurant with young children around. The manager was young, turned red, and said he hadn't noticed that. He went over and talked to them and then I saw him taking the balloons in the back.

I must admit I was (and still am) completely dumbfounded as to how we have sunk to such levels as a society where even the THOUGHT that this kind of behavior is ok would be tolerated. I simply cannot imagine the thought process of someone who would bring such a prominently displayed obscene image into a family restaurant. I'm speechless. Floored. Dumbfounded.

This is really our society? Behavior that would barely be acceptable at burlesque houses is now assumed to be ok by some people at family gatherings. And young women, no less! Have they no shame? This young lady is supposed to be preparing herself for marriage and with her neon lit veil and porn balloons, she is making a diabolical mockery of the whole thing.

I blame the complete auto demolition of the Mass and Church which has left the West with an ugly Mass, a barren Faith, no beauty, and dumbing down. We went from a society where every single Mass said was a TLM, people used to wear their best every Sunday, people had manners, class, discipline. To a complete wasteland of anarchy, rudeness, selfishness, immaturity, and hedonism. All in basically one generation after VCII centuries of culture were wiped out.

It makes me weep for the future. Sick.

  • Spencers, Hot Topic, etc...all those stores cater to the pagans/worldlings every whim and desire. Vulgar pictures are the best sellers, I would think there.

I thought of something, stevus, as you said "1 generation after VatII" making all this happen. This just shows how weak humans are, how complacent we can become, how infantile the control of our flesh is...when we do not have the Church to guide us and valid sacraments for every member of it. Just one generation and the whole world is ready for the End of Times with the Three Days of Darkness and all.

May God have mercy on all of those twisted people out there and the clueless as well.

  • Their parents are some what at fault too for letting them "date" in high school and go to parties with alcohol, drugs, and bad men. Then the parents send them to college for 30k a year to be even more exposed to alchol, drugs, and bad men. Its a vicious cycle.

Spoiled brats from rich families are good.  Poor men with religion are "creeps."

Most of the priests and most of the women are agreed on that.

Stevus I'm sure the people from fisheaters think you're just too uptight.  After all, it's just symbolism and that sort of symbolism goes way back.

  • The fact is, if you are  father and you want to preserve your daughters purity as long as possible, be very careful about high school and avoid the "college experience" if possible.

  • Someone on FE actually said that?
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Yes, according the revisionist history view many of their 20 somethings take, who can barely remember the 80's much less the 50's, things today are just as good or BETTER than the 50's. Someone actually made that argument there years ago. I couldn't believe it.

OBVIOUSLY the 50's weren't perfect and they saw the cracks in the foundation start regarding the fall of our society and culture. But to compare 1959 with 2011 and say the latter is better is like saying a devastated Rome conquered by barbarians was better than the last waning days of the Roman Empire. It is madness.

I've heard stories from my parents, grandparents, and uncles and I've seen video footage of the 40's and 50's. My great grandfather in the gulf south, height of summer, no air conditioning in church, would wear his best 3 piece suit to the Mass on Sunday. Family was first to these people. Hard work, common sense, helping your neighbor and friends, honor, respect, discipline, but also kindness, compassion, and dignity.

Just look at footage from the 40's and 50's or even a movie and you'll see that it is just permeated with a higher class of culture than our lowest common denominator formula movies and gutteral music today.

If some young dames tried to pull this bachelorette crap in a family restaurant in the 50's they'd probably be arrested, and rightly so. Now nothing is even done about it unless someone complains. It's just depressing. The generation before us ruined everything built over centuries in one generation. Unbelievable.

  • Yes, it's a shame that you had to observe something like that. The saddest part (to me) is that often these are perfectly nice young people - the kind you wouldn't mind having as friends or neighbors -  who don't really mean to give offense, but they have had no general guidance from the older generation.

One good thing is that your wife stepped up and said something. Too often, Christians sit back and say nothing, perhaps out of some misplaced sense of not wanting to interfere, seem judgmental, etc. I know that I have been guilty of that behavior in the past.

Another plus is that the young manager was aware that it was inappropriate and corrected the problem.

Really, it's often the "little things" that we Christians do that change the tone of society. Luckily, your family was there at the restaurant that night!

People aren't nice.  That's a big error Americans are inculcated with - this idea people are nice and can get along like young children.  Americans are so secure that they have a wrong idea of human nature.

While I am as anti-American as I can be, and though I have the unfortunate circuмstance of having to live in this land, people are indeed nice. People can get along with each other, 'like young children.' Even our Lord calls us to this. This doesn't mean 'everyone' is nice. But, also, not 'everyone' is mean. I think where Americans get it wrong is on their false interpretation of liberty. Then, most of them, are not so nice.

So those women Stevus is talking about are just nice girls?

People will smile and be friendly with you in a den of vice or in an abortion clinic too you know.

  • It's one reason why women tend not to be keen on "nice guys."  Even nice guys with good looks and good jobs.  Because their instincts instruct them as to what they are attracted to, not their rationality.

No but I can imagine them comparing it to dancing around the maypole.

There are actually masonic writings that talk about how such things are matters of reverence and piety.
