Charitably, URGE Director Mel Gibson to reconsider his choice of pro-abortion Katarzyna Smutniak to portray Our Lady in His Upcoming Movie ‘The Resurrection’.
The filming has already begun – TELL EVERYONE you know.
Mel Gibson is probably best known for directing The Passion of the Christ in 2004. He is also widely recognized as a practicing and struggling Catholic.
Sadly, he has now apparently decided to become infamous for choosing Smutniak, a publicly offensive, pro-abortion Polish actress to play the part of Mary Most Humble and Pure in this highly anticipated sequel.
Life Site News reports that “In 2020, after Poland tightened its laws against abortion, Smutniak posted a picture of herself on Instagram with disturbing pro-abortion messages written across her face — “This is war,” “the right to abortion.” “F*** off” — while offering a middle finger to those who oppose abortion.”
I originally awaited its release, but my conscience won’t leave me in peace after hearing of this choice to represent our most pure Mother.
Ask Mel Gibson to find an actress who better embodies the virtues of the Holy Mother of God rather than one who explicitly opposes them.
An online comment from David E. Wed, Oct 29, 2025, summarizes it quite well:
"Bad choice Mel, now I have no desire to see this movie. Of all the actresses he could have picked in the world, he picked a pro-abortion Polish actress? … This does not seem like a sane choice to me. I just don’t know what his thinking was."
This is definitely a grave offense to Jesus and Mary, and definitely a bad choice to represent Our Lady!
Please defend the honor of God and His Holy Mother Mary by telling Mel Gibson:

I am stunned and shocked that you would choose an outspoken pro-abortion critic and an actress known for her anti-Catholic activism to portray the character of the purest humanity of Our Lady, Mother of God, in your upcoming movie, ‘The Resurrection’.
It makes me feel dirty to think about watching a movie with such an anti-Mary actress portraying holiness and purity.
No amount of explaining, especially before God, will ever justify your current choice of Ms. Smutniak.
I couldn’t so much as even consider discussing Our Lady’s role with such a poor soul.
I believe that you and your company are tempting God with an antithetical choice who publicly wars for impurity and the murder of babies in the womb.
I will pray with charity that you find a good practicing Catholic actress to replace Ms. Smutniak immediately.
