  • I don’t think people even know how to properly socialize. My in laws turn the tv on first thing, and then they are lost to it. It’s so frustrating too that they aren’t careful about what they view. During the regular day the kids have a play room they use, and I’m usually doing chores, if the tv is on its I love lucy, leave it to beaver, our miss brooks, I married Joan, or the Donna Reed show. I try to keep everything super pg for them.

    Yeah, TV hypnotizes many people.

A disconnected TV is "super pg".

I tried to view the article in the OP, but it's not there anymore. I see that this is an old thread.

I agree, it did ruin western civilization. We're too distracted with all of the screens (I know I am) in our lives. Not to mention that it's easy to access immoral material, and it takes work to make sure that we don't view it.

I doubt that our now pagan/secular society could have been implemented without television.

  • Cellphones, laptops and tablets have replaced tv.

Cathinfo, Facebook is enough for me to handle.  I don’t twitter or instagram. I have no problem with turning off tv.   I showed my husband the many reasons why we can no longer watch Notre Dame football.  He finally agreed.  I have been taking baby steps. My husband and parents get upset when I go somewhere without cell phone.  There are days when I don’t charge the darn thing.  I just figured out another reason why I like to take trips to mountains ..no cell or technology.
May God bless you and keep you

    Big point.
Without TV, baby boomers could have not normalized a lot of sinful practices as divorce, abortion, promiscuity, children left at day care, etc....
I thought about my mother's generation. She grew up with TV. In the 80s and 90s, she normalized it was aceptable to separate from husband if he didn't allow you to work outside home. She normalized it was OK to live with other people without being married and even being in adultery.
My grandma never acepted those things. She watched TV, sure, but she never grew up with it. She was raised cstholic before CVII, went to a nuns school and when TV came, she was 40 and she didnt have time to watch a lot until she was 60 ...
My mothers generation were exposed to a lot of sinful ideas when they were growing up and young.
Of course TV its not a big thing today in the internet era, but the generation that raised millennials was raised with TV.
    BABY BOOMERS=TV.

  • TV is the tabernacle of Satan.

Facebook is a hub for the mentally ill.

So true! Indeed, so many problems in today's society were introduced and promoted in television. Do you think that maybe it was a slow process of being indoctrinated, so that it was difficult to see that we were being slowly led to accept sin as being a normal, and not sinful at all?

It's interesting that your grandma never grew up with TV, and she didn't accept those things on TV. I spent a lot of time with my great-grandmother, who also wasn't raised with TV (she was a lapsed Quaker), and she also never accepted sinful lifestyles like others in the family.

Somehow, there's a certain amount of trust that has been given to TV over the years; too much trust, as if television is the new religion which tells people how they should live. Many people tend to look for meaning in TV, without even realizing it. But that's the worst place to look.

Television in the early days may have seemed innocent enough in that it wasn't overtly sinful, and there were standards in the old days, due to the Catholic Church insisting on them. But of course that eventually changed, and since Jєωs run Hollywood (and they have a lot of help from non-Jєωs), there isn't any sin that isn't promoted by them. Now they can get away with terrible sins being promoted. It's so obvious that they hate Christ and the Catholic Church.

I admit I like to watch mysteries, like Agatha Christi. But I am bothered by the idea of being entertained by stories where mortal sin is the main feature. It's probably not a good idea to be entertained with mortal sin (murders and such), even if there isn't any crudity or sensuality. It's difficult or near impossible to find anything innocent on TV. It's also all tainted with feminism.

    I agree with you.

My grandma saw actors, actresses and TV people with sinful lifestyles as "mentally unstable, mad people, never to be imitated". Maybe she saw some tv shows and soap operas but she always remained catholic and she knew the lifestyles promoted by TV were not for catholics...

Baby boomers generation saw those people with admiration...instead of having the saints as models, they saw the TV fiction caracters as models.

And normalized situations saying "its not too bad ... a lot of people do (insert sinful behavior)"

And "people" for them were the people on TV ...

  • In the past I thought old shows were wholesome but there were small bits of liberalism.   Like the time I love Lucy.  Lucy reads book by Dr Spock.  She sends little Ricky to pre school.  Watching Blondie and Dagwood was pushing feminism.  Then another episode shows Dagwood throwing out a home made lunch. Then he goes out to lunch.  Then many westerns depicted Irish as saloon-girls and Irish men as bad guys.

Agreed. TV is not worth watching a lot, it could change people's thinking and behaviours without they knowing it. Serial dramas and comedies are their powerful weapons - you absorb their wrong ideas easily while enjoying them.
I prefer reading books than watching TV, now I only watch DVDs - I choose what to watch, no garbage ads, full control.

  • The Television is the tool of the devil. Always say the Rosary. Stay away from the near occasion of sin.
The TV is full of sin, and has corrupted three generations
of people into pagan life styles, that will lead them into
    hell fire.

Indeed! Took me months to wean myself off of TV. It's all filth and scandal. Don't forget anti-Catholic in all programs. I am working on reducing my computer time, now. I only view holy and/or wholsesome sites. Never felt better than I ever have before. Carry on!    :jumping2:
