TAN Books on the prowl
« on: February 26, 2026, 11:25:49 AM »
Anyone else notice TAN Books is on the prowl?

(Note: TAN Books was acquired by Saint Benedict Press, a conservative Novus Ordo company, in 2009)

I've received a half-dozen e-mails from TAN in the past week. After receiving NOTHING for years. What gives?

I haven't received any more than the usual one or two a week, but if I had to guess, I'd say that they're simply sending out multiple emails to anyone who has ever been on their mailing list, in hopes of increasing sales.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it cost them just as much to send out (let's say) 100,000 emails as to send out 10,000?  (I can't imagine the cost is much regardless of number, just whatever resources are used in maintaining the email list, the emails themselves cost nothing.)

They usually increase mailings during Lent and Advent.

TAN caved in years ago.  They stopped selling the Great Sacrilege years ago. John Wathen said that TAN threw away a couple thousand copies of the Great Sacrilege because they no longer had the rights. I doubt that they would even print something like the Ottaviani Intervention.  Like most Novus Ordo outfits, they have lost their way unfortunately.
