  • Branching off to Brazil from another recent topic here (https://www.cathinfo.com/crisis-in-the-church/ireland's-rebellion-against-god/msg912439/#msg912439)

Giovanni Berto & any other Brazilians, are there no protests? Business as usual? People too much into just getting by day to day to notice or care? From the website of the organization that manages the monument, it's unclear who exactly is in charge of it; the website does include the requisite ecuмenical interreligious gibberish. Yet somebody had to decide and sign off that this publicity stunt was OK.

The update is that the remaining Rio concert dates have been canceled due to extremely high temperatures, causing a 23 y.o. attendee to die from heat stroke on the tour's first night. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/taylor-swift-fan-details-scorching-sauna-like-conditions-brazil-show-23-year-old-dead

  • Another no-talent clown getting rich and famous after undoubtedly having "sold her soul" to the devil ... so it's time to pay back some of the debt by doing the devil's work.

  • I have not heard anything about protests.

As far as I know, the Rio de Janeiro diocese is in charge of the statue.

If I am not mistaken, there have been many similar things done with Our Lord's famous statue.

Rio de Janeiro is the least Catholic state in Brazil, and the capital city, Rio de Janeiro, is very cosmopolitan. I don't really expect any protests to happen.

Certainly witchcraft must be involved because otherwise her immense popularity cannot be attributed to talent.

  • There you have it:

    Quote

    My own translation:

Father Omar, the sanctuary's Rector, was begged by Taylor Swift fans, and got personally involved in the project.

  • Worshipping false idols.

    And yes, total witchcraft.

If any one was a true Christian, they wouldn’t even listen to her.  Some songs aren’t good.
May God bless you and keep you

The real issue I suppose is whether or not it's sacrilegious for advertisements, messages, or other things to be posted on or overlayed on top of religious statues, buildings, items, etc in ways that don't damage or otherwise alter the statue/building/etc.

To be clear, it seems unavoidable to conclude that it does indeed profane the sacred, but one could then ask: does the charity behind the "allowance" of such excuse it or make it ok? Or is that reasoning too close to ends-justifying-means reasoning?

As I understand it, no charity can justify sacrilege.

And this is just one case. There are probably many other similar occasions on which no charitable actions take place at all.

  • Brazil does this all the time. They treat the statue the same way we do the Empire State Building.
