SSPX Building Project Goes Down in Flames

  • Well, occasionally, justice is done in this world. The most liberal SSPX priory in the entire country(SSPX Florida) was dealt a lethal blow earlier this month when the town council of the most liberal government in Florida denied the SSPXs request for zoning and variances changes, essentially dealing a death blow to the project.

Reading the docuмent, a couple of comments struck me about the mindset of the SSPX and its current parishioners. These comments are telling in that they prove what many of us have been saying here for quite a while: Society’s interest is in making money and modern comforts.

Ronnie Khadaren, a resident, stated that his children have gone to Saint Mark and Archbishop. He said that this is a niche church and not poaching. He said that this church is his spiritual home to worship. The church has a high-income parishioner base and a devoted faith-filled community.

So, let's recount the damage the SSPX in Florida has done in the past few years.

    1) They close a mission chapel in the largest county in Florida(St. Philomena) during the height of COVID. The chapel had been in existence for over 30 years. The SSPX said nothing to the parishioners except to post a bulletin on their website about the closure. Note this chapel was willed to them by a hardworking, devoted priest who died young.

    2) The SSPX sells the mission chapel to Pentecostals in the area who were these same parishioners' nemesis for many years. They once desecrated a statue of Our Lady outside the Church.

    3) The SSPX purchases a parcel of land in Davie, FL, for over one million dollars. The land is not even zoned for church use and has many other issues that make it untenable to build. This shows a lack of due diligence on the SSPXs part.

    4) The SSPX fleeces the flock of over a million dollars with multiple fundraisers knowing there is a good chance the project will be struck down.
I could go on, but you get the picture.

The moral of the story is that our Lord does not bless sin. And people wonder why people leave the church or lose faith. Hopefully, the SSPX has learned a lesson, but somehow I doubt it. I have posted a link to the hearing for anyone interested. If anyone in Florida has more information about this disaster, please share.

Yes, the level of incompetency is stunning, but what's worse is that they continue to mislead the faithful. There was no need for a three to four-million-dollar project when you could have continued to service both chapels in Southern Florida with the entirely paid-for structures. When mass attendance grew, all you had to do was add a priest or two and more masses. It's hard to serve six million people with one or two priests.

  • I should also add that the chapel the SSPX closed(St. Philomena)  had a low-income base, but they had the faith. The Neo-SSPX wants to serve the high-paying clientele. There is simply no way around it.

This two found resonance in me.

It seems to me that the corporate culture of the SSPX is to treat the faithful as a nuisance and to be always ungrateful.

The only decent thing to do was to keep the chapel functioning. Even if just to honor the memory of the deceased priest and to show some respect to the faithful who have been attending for over thirty years.

To sell it to Protestants is the death blow. Can you disdain these faithful more than this?
