Be certain to acquire some properly blessed St. Benedict medals.

And remember your evening prayers.

There are various reasons for folks to be attacked while asleep. Be sure to work hard to give up vice and gain virtues and accept all from God's Providence, both punishment and mercy.

I have a history with the occult...

good evening John.

Without violating any privacy of yours, do you care to elaborate on the occult? Were you in to New Age (meditation/crystals/ metaphysics)...
Left Hand Path with involvement in a local group??? ... were you in a more organized group (typically with business professionals) with perhaps, Ceremonial Black Magicians/ Chaos Magick???

and to your question their are several strategies (overall) and specific tactical maneuvers (if SHIF) at the top of my head; to fight back...

in reading your thread, I don't know where you stand and don't want to elaborate without your permission ... your post is different (at least for me, in a good way). if you don't feel comfortable, it's cool.

No, I don't want to get into the things I've done.

UPDATE

I've increased my prayers even more, and used more Holy Water...and was not attacked last night! Thank you Our Lady of Perpetual Help!!! :dancing-banana:

In addition to a few Rosaries, St. Bridget's 15 prayers, Missal prayers, and the Auxilium Christianorum prayers, etc I've found several prayers from the Raccolta that I felt led to say. I am increasing my devotion to Our Lady and saying the Holy Face Novena until Shrove Tuesday.

If I didn't pray for hours a day I would be a lost soul :geezer:

What are folks thoughts on spiritual warfare, especially regarding someone with a past in the occult. I am a new convert but am a Catholic for life, no question about it. I am only now, by the Grace I've been granted, getting my life together and totally surrendering to Our Lord. I have begun using the prayers of the Auxilium Christianorum.

This is why the Church in this life is called the Church Militant. Whether you have a history with the occult or not it is still a kind of warfare with the powers of darkness.

May I recommend the Prayer of Total Consecration to the Immaculata by Maximilian Kolbe? I recite it daily and has helped me quite a bit.

Immaculata, Queen of heaven and earth, refuge of sinners and our most loving Mother, God has willed to entrust the entire order of mercy to you. I, N..., a repentant sinner, cast myself at your feet humbly imploring you to take me with all that I am and have, wholly to yourself as your possession and property. Please make of me, of all my powers of soul and body, of my whole life, death and eternity, whatever most pleases you.

If it pleases you, use all that I am and have without reserve, wholly to accomplish what was said of you: "She will crush your head," and, "You alone have destroyed all heresies in the world." Let me be a fit instrument in your immaculate and merciful hands for introducing and increasing your glory to the maximum in all the many strayed and indifferent souls, and thus help extend as far as possible the blessed kingdom of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus. For wherever you enter you obtain the grace of conversion and growth in holiness, since it is through your hands that all graces come to us from the most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

 V. Allow me to praise you, O sacred Virgin.
 R. Give me strength against your enemies.
