Title: Soul Retardation
Post by: Emile on December 06, 2023, 09:16:50 PM
I came across this interesting article on the spiritual life while searching for the topic of acedia, mentioned in Simeon's (https://www.cathinfo.com/catholic-living-in-the-modern-world/rethinking-tolkien/) recent thread. (https://www.cathinfo.com/catholic-living-in-the-modern-world/rethinking-tolkien/)

Lagrange's work cited in the article:

A much shorter work by the same author if time is at a premium:

Also, an English translation of the work by Fr. Lallemant:

Interesting article.

I was simply stunned when I came across Fr. Lagrange's work The Three Ages Of The Spiritual Life. It is so easy to understand, and at the same time is has depth. Most Catholics, even Traditionalists, have no knowledge at all about the beautiful things discussed in this book.

As a good retarded soul, I did not give the necessary importance to the book. Only recently I was able to get a real book and not a pdf file of this work.

If you give it the attention it deserves, The Three Ages Of The Spiritual Life will change your life.

Especially pertinent to the discussion, in the article, is the part about Fr. Lallemant's 4 enemies of the spiritual life. In particular #4: Superfluous recreations, conversations, and reading which give only a natural satisfaction to the mind.

Thank you for this, Giovanni Berto. Good motivation!
