  • Some of those things a mother SHOULD be ashamed of. They are obviously trying to curry favor with the majority of their audience which pursues the materialistic, worldly path.

  • Chant,
I agree that these are no-no's for mom...but why don't you ever post articles about bad modern fathers, or husbands? All your "stuff" is anti-woman...there are two sexes in the world you know!

  • I think that's just what articles like to talk about -- for example, babycenter is very mother-centric and we get their e-newsletters. I don't have time to really scour for articles.

But I regularly post articles (and discuss) modern living in general, which applies to both man & woman. I'm sure you've seen plenty of cases where I critique the "materialistic, suburban lifestyle" and such.

I pretty much post anything wrong with the modern world, so we can better recognize it. I assure you that I'm as quick to post articles criticizing modern MEN as I am to criticize modern WOMEN.

Like I said, it might just be that Henry Makow (et al.) tend to focus on feminism in their articles. But the modern errors affect BOTH genders, and those of either gender can take concrete steps to bring about a more Catholic and ordered society, by bringing order to their own families.

  • Talking about breast-feeding...

Is it acceptable behavior to still breast-feed your child when he is 2 years old? I knew a woman who did that and something felt disgusting about the whole thing. Doesn't a child remember when they are 2 years old. Won't a boy remember seeing his mother's breasts?

Yes. In some cultures they feed a lot longer than that.

If a mother has several children, chances are any older child will see and remember subsequent babies being fed.

I fed both mine until they were 1 year old, and my daughter, who was 18 months old when my son was born, would sometimes lift up her top ready to feed him herself!  :ready-to-eat:

    Unbelievable....

Yes, it is acceptable. God designed it this way especially. Most countries except America do breastfeed much longer. It is only our "career women" which rush to finish so they can "claim" their bodies back!!
Jesus was all-aware from birth. He remembers nursing perfectly. If it's good enough for Him...

  • It's true -- in virtually all SANE cultures (which excludes the modern American un-culture that masquerades as a culture) mothers don't even think twice about "how will I feed my baby" since God gave them a unique means of doing so, which has countless benefits for the mother AND baby. And moreover, babies seem to want to breastfeed much longer than 6 or 12 months -- and I think that's a GOOD, normal, natural thing, not something that should be corrected out of them (like selfishness, or other wounds of original sin)

Back in the day, babies would be "weaned" when they were well over 2 years old. Sometimes it wasn't their mother that nursed them (but rather a "wet nurse") but everyone considered a "toddler" or even a "school age 4 year old" to be just a baby. And really it's true. Look how vulnerable and sensitive most 2 and 3 year olds are.

The modern world wants everyone to be an adult as soon as possible. A 2 year old is a "big kid", and a 5 year old is a "mini adult". What happened to babyhood, and childhood?

And to top it off, adults go and live their childhood at age 20. Is that disordered or what?

So true, making up for lost time.
I always imagine that if some formula touting hussy tries to poo-poo my breastfeeding I'll just give her this oh-so-trendy tree-hugger answer: "I do not feel that it is fair to deplete our earths precious resources when I have been gifted with a perfect, nature-given way to nourish my child"
    God bless,
