I am not agreeing with the implicit approval of premarital sex in this article --- it's the (ex-Manchester) Guardian, what else would you expect? --- but if you could match up the women who can't find anyone to marry, with the men who can't find anyone to marry, then problem solved.

The women might have to come down to reality WRT their financial expectations, and the men might have to come down to reality WRT their aesthetic expectations, but as the saying goes, "never let the perfect be the enemy of the good".

To hear women tell it, if they don't have a man, it's because they don't want one, because they are blissfully happy in those huge careers of theirs, going out to the club with their girlfriends, and just generally floating on air, feet never touching the ground. There was a piercingly insightful skit the other night on Saturday Night Live, on what it looks like when 40-year-old women try to act like 20-year-old women. I've seen this IRL and it's really pretty pathetic.

They might be single, but women are not men. Women do the "choosing", men do the "hunting". All they have to do is lower their ridiculously high standards, and they won't be single any longer.

I've heard men say that even when they're desperate ("thirsty" -- yes, we're talking about worldly men without the Faith or Catholic morality), they get shot down by women who by all calculations should be welcoming their advances. We're talking about women who are not a prize, not a catch, in anyone's book. But despite advanced dating age (over 30, over 35, over 40), being less than a THREE on the 1-10 scale of beauty, being 150 or more pounds overweight, etc. they STILL want to date that top 1 percent of men. It's ridiculous.

The modern world has told them "beautiful at any size" and "you go girl" -- and these women are pairing their existing, natural feminine vanity with male pride and enjoying every minute of it.
