  • So if I cant get to mass am I obligued to move to where I can get to mass? A little confusing cause I just left our old place that had access to mass but if was a no brainer to move to where we are now.

I could be just making the whole thing up in my mind I  suppose but considering all the facts and inspirations and logic we really felt that God literally uprooted us to where we are now.

As far as mass goes its 3hrs away (ukrainian catholic) so we go 4 or 5 times per year then we have sspx who comes 3 times per year each time saying 3 masses. So we get a grand total of 12 to 14 masses per year.

Ive had many people ask us why we just dont move closer to where a traditional or ukrainian catholic mass is?

Not sure where lies the responsibility. The place we live in has been a God sent and we cant imagine living anywhere else. We have worked very hard here and love the community because they are sincere, hard working, extremely modest, and we know a few home school families with great kids. Unfortunately none of them Catholic.

Decisions decisions trying to make the right ones all the time is quite hard and challenging. Any comments appreciated.

With regards to our One Holy Catholic Faith we have only dived deeper into it. Consume alot of books, dvds etc and due to the huge non catholic population have done nothing but witness and inform those around us who before were literally clueless.

  • No.  You are not required to move closer to a church that offers a True Mass.  I don't know whether the Ukrainian Catholic Rite has been infected with the Modernism that is the core of the Conciliar church, so that's not even an issue.

While it may not be a desirable situation, your situation is not sinful in itself.

  • Unfortunately there are reports of modernism in the Ukrainian rite. The mass is good the position of the priest and kneeling. I have heard of altar girl servers??? Have not seen them. I have also seen older ladies read the epistle (not the gospel though)

Our church is great we are the only ones that show up during the week when we happen to go. Otherwise the majority that do attend on Sundays are running out the door the moment mass ends. Very minimal attendence unfortunatly. We hope it too doesnt close or we will really be up creek without a paddle.

So dependant on Spiritual communion and just going through the mass prayers ourself.  Heavy hearts is all I can say.

  • Your situation makes me think of times of persecution such as the English Reformation when Catholics would not have had access to the Mass very often. It must be difficult. And a unique sacrifice. Although not so unique these days, but certainly not one we would expect in our times of "liberty".

It's hard to say if a family should move. For some it is their only hope and for others it's a big mistake. I know that isn't helpful at all to hear though. It sounds like you have a very simple peaceful life where you are. I would be inclined to stay if you can be reasonably sure your children can keep the Faith in that environment.

You certainly aren't obliged to move where there is Mass. If that were the case you probably should not have moved from the previous Mass center to start with. But now that it's done, it seems you might be questioning it. I am a little isolated myself so I can relate to that longing for a normal parish life. But I really think it's just part of today's sacrifice and it's to be born with peace and patience.

  • Thanks for the support I can see there are many of us in the same boat. The longing the community. We currently have the most sweetest most sincere non denominational homeschool family we associate with. So enjoy them but have honestly related to them the sorrow I feel with the lack of unity and understanding in the faith. How beautiful it would be to attend the same church, discuss the gospel, live out our faith. Relationships can definetly be limiting if one befriends Non catholics. Ironically the catholics we know are less catholic than the non catholics who live very catholic lives (GET IT?)

We do what we do by faith and conviction. I often wonder why we (I) am the way we are. Just die hard catholics loving all of our faith wanting to live as much as we can. Convicted everyday and every moment of each day constantly sharing, our catholic faith with our children and community around us.

Two major majority religions where I am. MORMONS and MENNONITES. Have friends in both circles with honest up front sharing. Really enjoy their modesty and zeal but as a Catholic feel so sad that they just dont get it.

Not sure why our Lord allows all this complication and diversity of thought and intention. Only God knows?

Signing off, gotta load up my Wild Boar in the morning (Mr. Stinky) lots of hopin hens born this week very excited about the numbers make for lots of meat in the freezer.

  • I, too, cannot get to Mass on Sundays.

I work two 16-hour shifts, back-to-back, Saturdays and Sundays.  While working Sundays is ordinarily immoral, it is acceptable for ancillary workers, such as police and medical workers.  I am the latter.

Been stuck in this shift for four years, now.  I can't get out, and there's no promotions here that are based on merit.  Everything is based on the whims of the leadership at that moment.  The place is run by women, so there you go.

There was a day-shift MRI opening not too long ago.  I've spent the last four years preparing for it, doing work over at a charity clinic for the hospital, doing overtime, taking difficult hours and call.  I'm well versed in a lot of equipment, and have cross-sectional anatomical imaging experience from CT.  Yet...the position was given to a dopey lady who's been here 10 years.  Why?  Because the poor dear has five kids, an idiot husband, and was just recently yelled at by a male supervisor (who's been promptly demoted, the mean bastard [sarcasm]).  So, since she is so pathetic, she gets the promotion.

Sure, you'd say, she has seniority.  But in the ten years she's been here, she has not even done half the things I've done in only four.

I'll never get out of this crappy weekend shift.  I'm given a great deal of hard tasks, while more obese female co-workers are living on easy street on this shift.

I hate double standards.  I despise them.

  • You only really need to receive Holy Communion and go to Confession once a year.

The trends of modernism in the Eastern Churches seems to be more along the lines of over-friendliness with the Orthodox.

Three hours is not that far of a drive. It could be done every weekend. But if you know the situation is less than ideal, there's no obligation.

     :fryingpan:Ummmm do you have kids?????

A 6hr return drive with two sets of diapers, nursing, bathroom breaks and IM HUNGRY, IM THIRSTY is something we do 4 times per year. We did the one day deal  then we changed it to a two day deal :alcohol: we spend the night so were not all rushed for 8am mass.

Thank goodness once a year makes us legal though :incense:

Thank goodness sspx have found us and do mass as well almost in our home 3 times per year :incense:

    I will survive :reading:

  • I can't speak for infants, but I know a family with four young boys, aged elementary to high school, that frequently made 3-hour drives without stopping and 6-8 drives with exactly one stop half way to stretch and get gas.

It's obviously harder with infants, but once they get to five or six and are potty-trained, there's no reason you have to stop on a three hour drive. For bathroom breaks at least.
