  • The military cut was really to keep lice off the soldiers. That's the reason they had such a short cut. Just an FYI.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

My Avatar is Fr. Hector Bolduc. He was a faithful parish priest in De Pere, WI,

  • King Ferdinand II of Aragon, called Ferdinand the Catholic, he and Queen Isabella sponsored the first voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1492.
That year he also fought the final war with Granada which expunged the last Islamic state on Spanish soil.

  • Sts. Cosmas & Damian stayed true to their faith, enduring being hung on a cross, stoned and shot by arrows and finally suffered execution by beheading.  Patron saint of physicians.

    Nothing effeminate here.

  • Pope St. Gregory the Great, the first monk to become pope, and credited with the invention of Gregorian Chant.

    No buzz cut here.

  • St. John the Baptist.

He was so busy with God's work he did not make it to the barber.

  • The Cure of Ars, St. John Vianney.

I was actually privileged to venerate his incorrupt remains when they came to the USA.

  • St. Louis de Montfort promoted devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of consistently praying the Rosary.

Quite debonair with his curly locks.

  • We can keep going back to historical figures but we are still living in the modern day here and as was said earlier, in modern times the short hair style was a symbol of those on the Right (although this was not always the case) since it showed military service and the long hair was a symbol of the left-wing hippies. However if we indeed take your case to point I will call to attention a long-haired person on here Mithrandylan and note his leftist tendencies.

  • Anyway we are getting away from the topic here. The topic was hair on women and that should be obvious. It should be long and a lady should have other fine qualities as well such as humbling herself towards her husband, religious (obviously), takes care of the house and children, kind and caring towards her children and husband (with our new 'modern' woman this is increasingly an anomaly as women act like men and start to shriek and blame men for everything), etc.

  • St. Catherine of Siena was infamous for her immense desire to shave all her hair so she would not be desired by men.

This was so she could remain a virgin and even a hermit as she desired to spend her days in prayer for the praise and worship of God.  She did not wish to follow her parents wishes to be married.

She viewed her long hair as an impediment to her spiritual well being.

Her desire to please God was of greater importance to her than her desire to please her father who wanted her married off.  The irony is that she also desired to spend the rest of her life in prayer because she wanted her father to go to heaven.  She deemed her father as someone doomed for eternal damnation so she was looking to spending her life in prayer and penance for the sake of her father.

The point is, you cannot take the length of ones hair as a sinful act - its a simple state of being, like an apple can be green or red.

  • But we are speaking of women who are to be wives and mothers- not virgins.

    Yes, why don't we?

If long hair and a beard was good enough for Our Lord, His apostles and all of Christian men for more than a thousand years, you'll have to forgive me for not being convinced that short hair is desirable* because of it's modern connotations.  What a load of crap!

Also keeping in mind that when a man has long hair and a beard, he doesn't have a particular hair "style," rather he is wearing himself without the interference of a style.  A man who keeps his hair very short and his face bald has a hair style, as he is the one manipulating his appearance.

Traditional guy should have a greater appreciation for the rich history of men who let their hair grow, instead of being slavishly devoted to the stylistic mores of modernity.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to reading Ginsberg and listening to Dark Magus.   :smoke-pot:

*Incidentally, I have no problem with short hair on men.  I understand that it is the modern trend and an innocuous one at that.

"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

And you say a virgins hair should be?
In comparison to one who is to be a wife/mother?
