There have been a LOT of bigger (up-side of mag. 5) earthquakes in various other parts of the world, sometimes in unpopulated regions, that go unreported by the media. Recently there have also been a lot of 6s and 7s going on. That's pretty serious stuff. But because most of it happens in other parts of the world or out in the middle of the ocean somewhere, we don't hear squat.
I watch the earthquakes pretty closely, and have for the last year or so. We don't hear about MOST of what goes on out there. I guess what's on television or what movie star is in trouble now, is more important to some people.
Curiously, ever since that one really big quake by California, that area really has not quieted down completely. Every once in a while, there's another big "burp" of quake activity around there. It's my understanding that when the last "big one" hit CA, it began with a much more moderate quake... then BOOM, the big one hit, and shot up through CA, pretty much from around that same neck of the woods.
Seeing more activity in the EASTERN part of the US is kind of worrisome, though. They may be tiny tremors, but they're unusual as far as I know. (Those around the bottom of IL).
