  • Yesterday, I went for a hike and noticed an old building with shutters that were actually useful.

They at one time could be closed.  Ours on our house is about looks.  I was thinking if I had real shutters that actually worked, it cool the house during summer and keep out cold during winter.  (And keep out light during 3 days of darkness ).
May God bless you and keep you

  • In one of his early military assignments, George Washington was stationed on a frontier outpost, that was notorious for Indian attacks.

He made a specification that the shutters on the windows of his quarters had to be "four hands thick".
The purpose for this thickness was so that they could withstand an initial tomahawk blow.

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • Thank you. That is cool.  It could be useful if and when liberals attack.

  • We have those, roll a shields.  We had them in Germany, when stationed there.  So, after living in AZ for 25 years, I told my husband, I would like those on the house.  The 2 south windows for sure, and hubby needed a bedroom, dark, to sleep during the day. I wanted privacy to the back of the house.  So, all windows are done and I love them.  They help the 2 bedrooms to the south at least 5 degrees cooler. The roll a shields are insulated, and can't break in, never paint them.  You can allow the amount of light you may wish.  Ours are manually operated, no electricity.  That is what we had in Germany and very happy with them.  Cost? Well, we put up about $3000.  and that was 12 years ago.

  • OH, how many windows?  2 good size went for $900. one small, and 2 narrow reg. size.  I would think a good size window would cost $1,500. a guess. I love the security, and less heat in summer, beating on windows.
