  • How about knickers or a kilt?
Both male and female Muslims are covered up.
Old Order Amish and even ultra orthodox and Hasidic Jews—all dressed modestly with a head covering of some sort!
Personally, I think knickers are for boys.  I think men look funny in them, but I do realize that was the style a long time ago. A kilt looks weird outside of Scotland. Though, for some reason I think a man in a kilt must be extra manly to wear such a thing. But if i see a man wearing women's clothes, then there must be something wrong with them.

The reality is this.  People dress like the culture they live.  Styles change.  I am just afraid of saying anything different than what the men want to be said.  It just shows their narrow focus.  Do people dress more modestly when they find and love God?  Yes. They do this for all religions. When they get more devout they follow the rules better.

I couldn't wear a head covering all day long, because it is different from the culture I grew up in.  Yet because these conversations start up I start to get scrupulous and then worry about offending God.  Will I go to Hell because I don't want to wear a hat all day long?  I am not sure that is the case.  I mean I have walked at the mall lately and most of the people wear pajama bottoms.  I think people just dress sloppily for the most part. Does sloppy dress affect the way people feel?  Probably yes. If we want a better society we probably have to dress better.  Anyways, sorry for my ramblings.

Try not to be too scrupulous over it. I don't think it's something you go to hell for especially considering modern society. The point of this thread is to discuss this idea. Now if your husband asked you to cover your head it would be a different story. I do think society would be better if women did cover their heads in public but they first need to work on covering their bodies and fixing their behaviour and mannerisms.

  • I haven’t voted because I think the area might be a little gray and yes or no is black and white. I don’t believe it to be a moral issue.

I think head covering even outside of Mass and prayer is actually a nice practice even though I don’t do it myself as a rule. I think it helps to cultivate femininity. I say that because I feel more feminine (even if it’s just a very practical do rag) on days that I do wear it. Often I do it just to cover up bad hair, like if I haven’t had time to wash it. I and the girls do a lot of outside work and having a head covering is practical.  On those days, not so ironically, I feel more lovely and so do my daughters. Perhaps it is in part because my husband really likes it and always compliments us.

Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

Modesty in women is feminine and hence attractive. There is a reason why modern women who act like men are unfeminine and unattractive.

Though, for some reason I think a man in a kilt must be extra manly to wear such a thing. One of my nephews, when he was about 3-5, was very impressed with the Monaghan Pipe Band in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the instruments, music, and kilts, which he called “man skirts.” He wanted his Mom to get him a drum and an outfit, which he wanted to wear to preschool!  Being half Irish, my sister thought it would be cute.  His father who comes from Turkey and Germany, vetoed the idea. No way, was his son wearing anything resembling female clothes!  By the time he started first grade, my nephew had changed his mind. So if he misbehaved, we threatened him with having to wear a kilt!

But if i see a man wearing women's clothes, then there must be something wrong with them.
Obviously! And the same for a woman wearing what are obviously men’s clothes. I’m not speaking of all pants. Although I seldom wear them, there are pants that are certainly feminine. Pink pants with daisies or little kitty on a man? Sorry, that’s gαy. A woman in combat gear? No. She’s a dyke.

The reality is this.  People dress like the culture they live.  Styles change.  I am just afraid of saying anything different than what the men want to be said.  It just shows their narrow focus.  Do people dress more modestly when they find and love God?  Yes.      When I was living with and teaching an autistic Amish girl, I dressed Amish, head to toe including a single woman’s “capp.” It didn’t seem at all strange. In fact, it would have been considered improper to not wear one.
Yet because these conversations start up I start to get scrupulous and then worry about offending God.  Will I go to Hell because I don't want to wear a hat all day long?
No, of course you won’t go to hell for not wearing a hat 24/7. Nuns and Amish women remove theirs regularly for washing their hair. Some Amish wear a babushka style kerchief to bed.

I am not sure that is the case.  I mean I have walked at the mall lately and most of the people wear pajama bottoms.
Still?  Thank goodness pajama pants seem to have gone out of style around here, as are deliberately ripped up jeans.  And malls as “the” place to see and be seen, and to shop are pretty much dead, replaced by shopping online.

I think people just dress sloppily for the most part. Does sloppy dress affect the way people feel?  Probably yes. If we want a better society we probably have to dress better.  Anyways, sorry for my ramblings.
Yes, people do act and feel better when well dressed. Think how you feel and look, for example, after mowing five acres in the blazing sun, all sweaty, in old clothes, probably smelly. Would you go immediately from the lawn into town? To visit friends? To the dentist?  No, you’d remove your sweaty, dirty, smelly armpit clothes, bathe yourself, and put on clean clothes before going out. At least MOST people would do so. That doesn’t guarantee the clean clothes will be modest and gender appropriate or include a head covering. Even the most primitive of uncivilized tribes have certain standards of clothes although that may be limited to a loincloth of new tanket leaves in back and a fresh penis gourd in front!
