  • The Lord God will judge you severely, most severely, if you allow your children to engage in media harmful to their Faith or Morals.  For example, the tv, internet, friends, and etc...

You are just as guilty as them, and share in their crimes, if you allow them un restricted use of such media.

There are many OT movies that are excellent, and a few NT ones.  However, due to the immorality in some, you must pre censor them, before allowing them to see them.  This is not a hard task.  Just buy some used ones for example at ebay or amazon or anywhere.  Copy them onto your computer, and cover some scenes, or erase them, as need be, to as not to injure their Faith and Morals.

A few ones to get are Jeremiah, Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon, The Passion of the Christ, St. Anthony, St. Patrick, Black Robe, and more to be added to this list later on.

Put first the Kingdom of God, and all else will be added to you.  Forbid them to use the internet without your immediate supervision, and then only to go to safe sites.  Put filters on their computers as well.  God will not be mocked.  Neglect not these holy admonitions, lest you sin by omission.  Put the Faith first.  All else is secondly done.  Much more to be added, as time goes on, and is prudent to do so!

  • A few more excellent movies to know and love are:  The BBC Cadfile series, the Sherlock Holmes series (black and white series), OT movie "Ester", and NT movie "Miracle of Marcellino". The BBC does a good one on Saint Constantine the Great.  The classic movie "On the Waterfront" is good also.

As mentioned above, nota bene:  parents must always censor movies first, before allowing their children to view them.  At minimum, they can fast forward any immoral or heretical scenes, or cover the screen for the time, and use this as a teaching tool for to explain the evils of immodesty and/or heresy in the movie.  Neglect not these inspired words of God regarding the crime of scandal to children:

    "And they shall go in thither, and shall take away all the scandals, and all the abominations thereof from thence.  {Ez. 11:18}  But as for them whose heart walketh after their scandals and abominations, I will lay their way upon their head, saith the Lord God.  {Ez. 11:21}  And I said to them: Let every man cast away the scandals of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.  {Ez. 20:7} The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity.  {Mt. 13:41} Woe to the world because of scandals. For it must needs be that scandals come: but nevertheless woe to that man by whom the scandal cometh.  {Mt. 18:7}

  • Please stop this self-righteous preaching to the choir.  In addition, this thread has absolutely nothing to do with the "Crisis in the Church" forum.

    The BBC Cadfile series,

Sorry, but it's filth ... one of the first couple episodes involves a couple fornicating in the church.  "Brother" Cadfael informs them that it's OK because something so natural couldn't constitute a sacrilege.

Totally agree.  Parental review/censorship can never replaced by taking recommendations from others.
Some movies would be decent if all of 30 seconds could be clipped out.

Is it not we miserable sinners who pierced this most innocent heart of Mary at the time of the Passion of the Savior, with countless thousands of shafts of sorrow by our innumerable sins? How greatly are we obliged, then, to render all the honor within

    Define "decent".

I say that a movie with just one scene of fornication, etc. is riddled with countless other subtle assumptions and "givens" that are far from reality and God's truth.

And I submit that such subtle brainwashing, behavior, and "digs" at Catholic culture are much more nefarious and damaging than any flesh or blood (sex or violence) on the screen -- those things are easy to catch and avoid.

Good question.  You (or I) have opened a can of worms.

Decent, at minimum, might mean: No implied, desired, suggested, actual or tolerated violation of the 6th or 9th commandments. No misrepresentation or denigration of marriage.  No suggestive or overly sensual clothing or behavior. No blasphemy or profanity.

Wow.  That cuts out allot of movies.

Sure seems to be the case.  But why would a Catholic family be watching such a movie to begin with ?

Even movies that act as though the Christian perspective never existed are dangerous.

Yes, I concede that there are very few movies that could be patched up to 100% edifying condition.
