  • I have noticed something.  When a girl dresses modestly, boys respect them more than girls that dress imodest.

    Indeed! A keen observation.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

Correct,  I think I can speak for most men when I say I find it very difficult to think of woman who dresses as a 'loose woman', as anything other than a 'loose woman', even if she may be very sweet and innocent in reality.  It is hard for men not to 'judge a book by its cover' as the old saying goes.

  • What about women and girls who dress plainly in looser fitting pants and shirts ... no makeup, simple hairstyle, no Jєωelry, no words on the shirt, no flourishes, patterns or bold colors?

Frankly, I find that I do not wish to be noticed in a positive or negative way .. and dressing as I described above means I can move about as if I were virtually invisible in the world.

I have tried off and on for years to adopt wearing skirts and have found innumerable barriers to doing so regularly (I wear skirts to Mass).  Too cold, too hot, too constricting, too fussy, too "fluffy" (i.e., not to be worn on a windy day), too short, too see through ... no proper underthings, too hot for layers ... fuss, fuss, fuss and bother ...

In addition, being the only woman anywhere wearing a skirt is very uncomfortable for me.  I wish to pass through my daily activities without drawing notice .. and I find wearing skirts makes me feel very much the oddity.

I am very conflicted though, because the arguments FOR wearing dresses have always been very compelling to me .. however, it practice, being the only female in most settings dressed like this is unbearable .. and the skirts are usually awkward and uncomfortable for one reason or another. Pants, unfortunately, fit the bill for nearly everything.  You're covered, you can wear cooler capri type in hot weather, you don't have to worry about windy days, you can walk comfortably and you don't draw attention.

I'd like it to be different, but I guess I choose comfort and invisibility over the alternative.

Let's all say a prayer for our over-worked priests who yet again have to take the time to prepare and say another sermon about modesty just because the weather got warmer and the brain cells of a large number of women fried.
