  • ...WHAT THE...?
This site claims that Popes have said things in which they claimed themselves "gods".
Just read what popes PV, PIX and PX said. PX claims to be Christ, and they even put some Saints in this whatever. Like, St. Catherine of Siena saying that if even we get a demon instead of a Pope, we must obey him, despite what other Saints say: if a Pope proclaims heresy, he loses his post and gets excommunicated. And if PX proclaimed heresy, then those very high Communion age limits weren't changed. Please prove that these Popes didn't say any of these things, because there's evidence for the Church.
If our Faith is false, then how could I get that Jesus? Maybe I'll become an Orthodox because they have the same root as us, if we erred in the Pope thing. But if they're false, too, then I don't know what shall I do. Maybe I'll do a massacre or start drinking.

  • I read the quotes and didn't find anything wrong with them. If the pope IS the Vicar of Christ, if Peter alone has the keys our Blessed Lord gave to him, and if he was continually separated and placed above the apostles- what's wrong with these quotes?

It may infuriate the Protestants (and others) when they read of the secular power that Popes of the early Church had; but they are ignorant of history; others here would be able to better explain, but don't forget that as the Roman Empire fell (circa 400 AD), the Church was the institution which rose up and gave order to the world. It was Her, the Church, who protected what was left of civilization from barbarians, and later set out to spread the Faith and civilization to the remaining world.

I didn't see where anyone claimed to be gods, but "seem by this reason, to be above all gods."

Pope Gregory IX, in 1229, issued the papal bull, Excommunicamus, in which he denied legal consul to defendants on trial by the Inquisition. (Source: Kirsch, 79)

Its funny- it was the Church, and her subordinates, who created much of what we have come to know as the legal system we have today. Much of this 'crying foul' on this page comes from unbelief in the one true Church of Jesus Christ, naturally. If someone believes not in Christ (ie, not believing in the fullness of Christ is not believing in Him), how can we expect them to believe in His Church.

Perhaps there were a few quote you found specifically difficult to explain to yourself Pelly? Please share! :smirk:

  • Besides the fact that most of those quotes contain nothing objectionable whatsoever from a Christian pesperctive, no Pope has ever claimed to be a God - those quotes attributed, for example, to Pope Pius IX, such as "I am the way, the truth, and life" are fabrications. Why do you subject yourself to the lies and falsehoods of heretical internet layman, rather than embroiling yourself in legitimate scholarly studies of the history of the Catholic Church? If you were more versed in Catholic history and apologetics you wouldn't allow these fictional concoctions to shake your faith in such a manner. All the Papal writings are out there for you to read, many freely available on the internet, and you can see for yourself whether the Popes have said some of the things that author attributes to them.

Leo Zagami, who holds that the world is enslaved by reptilian humanoids, can shake your faith to it's very core? Really? What on earth are you listening to these people for?

“The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)

If God has given real power to his Church:
    Quote
Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.

In a sense, yes, the Pope and God are the same. Not because of some intrinsic power the Pope has, but because of the power God has given him. Its like our Blessed mother; though she is the mother of God, and he perfectly subjugated himself to her, it was not through any direct power she had over him, or besides him- but all anyone has, including our most Blessed Mother, is from God. There is no contradiction here.

Think about this: a Priest is the only person in the world who can, in a sense, command God to come down from Heaven into a Host on Earth; is it because the Priest is God, or equal to God? No. But because God has given him power to do so.

  • It should be noted that Pope Pius V never said that. Dave Armstrong debunks this fabrication here:

  • Pelly, people here have been telling you to stop reading those non-Catholic sites, and this is precisely why. If you keep putting stock into what ignorant Protestants say, you're going to lose your Faith.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

    I second this, Pelly.

  • I forgot to add that there was a troll suspect claiming to be a theologian who said that the Pope is Christ when we was criticizing Francis.
