  • I think that having a Saint or Blessed as a sort of spiritual friend could really help me with my daily spiritual life. I have been doing much better lately overall: succuмbing to my worst sins less, wavering in faith less, and so on. Praying the rosary has helped, but having a Saint in my life who has been through the struggles of sin would make me far less lonely and keep me consistent in my prayers, as someone quarantined with a completely nonChristian family.

I used to have that in a few of the conciliar Church saints, like Charbel and Padre Pio, but I have sadly felt very uncomfortable asking them for help lately due to their association with the modernists.

Ultimately, I'm searching for a male saint or Blessed whose life is a reflection of the Church's wisdom. Preferably, they would be a male clergyman who demonstrated the gentle and loving mercy of God. Someone with writings, or who I could learn about by books written about them, would be even better. God bless you all again!

  • How about St Casimir of Lithuania?

  • Here is more about St Casimir;

Surviving contemporary accounts described Prince Casimir as a young man of exceptional intellect and education, humility and politeness, who strove for justice and fairness.[10] Early sources do not attest to his piety or devotion to God, but his inclination to religious life increased towards the end of his life.[11] Later sources provide some stories of Casimir's religious life. Marcin Kromer (1512–1589) claimed that Casimir refused his physician's advice to have sɛҳuąƖ relations with women in hopes to cure his illness.[11] Other accounts claimed that Casimir contracted his lung disease after a particularly hard fast or that he could be found pre-dawn, kneeling by the church gates, waiting for a priest to open them. Zacharias Ferreri (1479–1524) wrote that Casimir composed a prayer in hexameter on mysteries of incarnation but this text has not survived.[12] Later, a copy of Omni die dic Mariae (Daily, Daily Sing to Mary) was found in Casimir's coffin.[13] The hymn became so strongly associated with St. Casimir that sometimes it known as Hymn of St. Casimir and he is credited as its author.[13] The lengthy hymn has an intricate meter and rhyme scheme (alternate acatalectic and catalectic trochaic dimeter with internal rhyme in the first and third verses (aa/b, cc/b)) and was most likely written by Bernard of Cluny.[14]

  • Jerm, It is good to have a saint friend of your own, whom you can turn to in need.

I wonder why you say you have sadly felt very uncomfortable asking them for help lately due to their association with the modernists. It's a shame to deprive yourself of their prayers on account of the time God put them on this earth, don't you think?

I know little about St Charbel, (are you Lebanese?) but certainly St Pio was not a modernist nor inclined to modernism.

But the world is your oyster as far as the saint you seek - so many to choose from, over a time frame of 2000 years. It depends very much on your own nature and needs.

How about St Francis of Assisi. He was a young worldly lad, who turned his life around. Don't buy into the sentimental one though.

How much have you read of the saints?
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I don't know a lot about the saints, but I have put a good amount of time into finding one I can ask for help.

I love Padre Pio, but I have heard he may have been a modernist in disguise, which really set me off from him. Apparently, there are reports that he told Mary Pyle, one of his spiritual children, that her Baptist mom was in Heaven. Simply put, without a certain pre-VII canonization, I can't be sure. Charbel is actually very unproblematic, simply being a Lebonese monk whose incorruptible body resulted in many, many miracles. But, again, there's that nagging problem of the possibility that I will lead myself astray by following "signs" that are not given via intercession of a saint, but the evil one. Befriending a blessed or saint prevents this possibility.

  • Only after the last judgment will Mary get any rest;  from now until then, she is much too busy with her children.  St. John Vianney

Curl up like a little boy sitting in the lap of a Mother who loves him to death and believe every word contained in the following prayer.  The greatness of countless male saints/martyrs was won by our Holy Mother’s unceasing intercession - all you have to do open the tap and let the graces flow.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help, or sought Thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O Virgins of virgins, my Mother. To Thee do I come, before Thee stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,  despise not my petition, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

    Psalm 130
Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it.
For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law,
I have waited for thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on his word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

  • Your Guardian Angel is your constant companion, why not start with him? Also St. Paul the Apostle or St. Augustine were great sinners who became great saints.

St. Jean M.B. Vianney.  He could read souls, he fought the devil etc and you'll find many books on him.  The best is his sermons and his catechism.  A book on his life by Trochu is the most accurate as it only contains events and stories that were sworn to during his canonization process.

  • St. Augustine Doctor of the Church.  Imagine, he having a child out of wedlock, a mother in tears.  But the mother was promised that he would be saved.

check into his wisdom and teachings.    Check a book of saints and read their backgrounds.

Hmmmm! 🤔 looks like your quotation of the above Psalm is from the modernist bible and not the Douay-Rheims version.
The DR version is Psalm 129 De Profundis.

No.  It is taken from Douay-Rheims - I made sure of that.  I think the number of the psalm can change depending on where you look it up.

    Well?
I am sure it’s 129 in the DR version.
    Perhaps you could confirm again?
The seven penitential Psalms in the
    DR version are
    6, 31, 37, 50, 101, 129 and 142.

In the ‘other’ versions including the Protestant, they are numbered as

    6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130 and 143.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.
    Thanks

These are the numbers used in pre Vat II prayer books , the Liturgy of the Hours, the Rituale Romanum and all missals.  All come from the DR bible.
