They do a sloppy, ram shackle job at facts and articles, esp when they do not like something....a lot of strawmen...almost at the level of SPLC in their hit peices and lack of research and integrity......

    summary if you will....

I agree, Belloc, some of their articles are somewhat silly.
Roscoe may be interested to read one of their articles about the correct Catholic etiquette to always light a friend's cigarette for them.

Another article they have says you can tell the state of one's soul by the look of their eyes - and of course they showed a picture of a Buddhist Asian man's face to represent evil.  :fryingpan:

When I first read the title of the article on the evil of balls, I had a raised eyebrow, to say the least.  :scratchchin:

  • So, when Catholic Kings were crowned, there were no balls/dancing or....were there?

if so, were they in sin?

and if so, what about David who danced? was he is sin?

2 Kings 6:14 And David danced with all his might before the Lord: and David was girded with a linen ephod

1 Paralipomenon 15:29 And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord was come to the city of David, Michol the daughter of Saul looking out at a window, saw king David dancing and playing, and she despised him in her heart.

2 Kings 6:16 And when the ark of the Lord was come into the city of David, Michol the daughter of Saul, looking out through a window, saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord: and she despised him in her heart.

1 Kings 18:6 Now when David returned, after be slew the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with timbrels of joy, and cornets.

Esther 8:16 But to the Jєωs a new light seemed to rise, joy, honour, and dancing.

Luke 15:25 Now his elder son was in the field, and when he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing

Quotes from DR-CV...note the celebration for prodigal son in Luke, part of this formally called celebration was.....DANCING!!!!

One has to differentiate between the rub and wave your booty "dancing" of today and some ballroom dancing (not all of course)....

without reading further, he we have again what they do over at non-traditioninaction..find something they do not like, strawman it to death and never discern or differentiate....

  • No, this really is Church teaching about dancing.  Remember that for Catholics even kissing is a mortal sin, or impure looks or touching.  How often are those things going to be avoidable at a ball?  How often are kids at a ball going to be able to resist getting carried away?

Because of the special sense of occasion at a public dance, there is an intoxication in the air, a desire for something to happen. Think of the masqued revelry at courts and in Venice; these were carried out by Catholics but do you think they were pure?

Public dances create an overheated, erotically charged atmosphere.  After two hours being whirled around by various suitors, do you think chastity is foremost on a girl's mind?  It would almost be anticlimactic if nothing happened after a ball.  Another problem is that it fills her head with dreams of adventure and romance, instead of mundane day-to-day duties.  A girl can easily become spoiled and bratty because a handsome young Turk pays her some attention at a ball once.

We have lost the sense of the virtue of chastity.  Now we throw it away as soon as we first get the chance; it's considered a burden, not a treasure.  It's hard for us to imagine how something like a ball could be frowned upon.  But in a time where Catholic parents raised their daughters very strictly, a ball was a rare opportunity to break free, supposedly under close watch, but you know the drill:

    "Meet me after the dance."
    "I can't."
"Climb out of your window at midnight."
    "I can't."
"Yes, you can, I'll be waiting," etc.  A la Romeo and Juliet.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

    Okay, no dancing.

I don't think it is necessarily prohibiting dancing, but balls which can become an occasion of serious sin (especially since the rise of the close-contact waltz, which may have been invented in Protestant areas of South Germany).

I'll post an old article on this as a new topic, which I believe both sides can agree with.
    Pray for me, always.

It appears that dancing, for pleasure, with the opposite (or, these days, the same) sex is condemned.

so, the peck on the cheek I got from my mother at Thanksgiving was an occasion for a trip to confession?

    any citations?
