  • I am going to be spending three months in San Francisco soon, not in a Catholic household. Obviously I'll need to get to Mass and confession. I wondered if anyone who knows the area had any thoughts. I try to be uncompromising in the churches I attend and I really need no-nonsense guidance in confession.

    Thanks, and prayers

  • Mark,

I am not from the area nor can I say that I've had any experience with these two EASTERN parishes, but you may consider, at the very least, taking a look.  I have not read through the website of the Russian one, so don't jump on me if it has lots of modernist nonsense:

    1.  Immaculate Conception (Ukrainian Catholic)
    215 Silliman Ave.
    San Francisco, CA94134

    Telephone: (415) 468-2601
    Fax: (415) 468-2601

    Rev. Petro Dyachok

    2.    Our Lady of Fatima
    Byzantine Catholic Church
    101 20th Avenue (near Lake)
    San Francisco, California 94121

    Phone  415-752-2052
    Fax  415-752-6073

    G'luck!

The SF Bay Area is just poorly served, at the moment, particularly if one is literally going to stay in SF. I guess that's why, to be somewhat facetious, Our Lord invented the road trip.

I think the closest SSPX chapel is down in the hills leading to Santa Cruz. That's a long trip down 280 from SF. Fr. Morrison's traditio.com chapel, however, is right out on the piers at Fisherman's Wharf. I believe he's Thuc-line. But compared to nothing else within driving distance, it might be worth stopping by there, on Sunday.

  • Thanks very much. I have done some research on the Fisherman's Wharf chapel. I don't drive so that looks like the only option. But I guess that is what Holy Church gave us Spiritual Communion for :-)

If you call around, you may be surprised to find that many churches, chapels, etc. will very willingly arrange for somebody to pick you up.  If you're willing to accept a ride, a church or chapel may have something for you.  Keep your eyes open, and don't turn down an opportunity!

  • Thanks. I will. And thinking and praying about this having to work harder at getting to Mass and Confession will in some way I think be sort fo good for me. Can't quite explain that yet but feel it!
