Replant, recycle

Within the next week or so, churches will be discarding their spent Easter Lilies.  They'll be very happy to give them to anyone who asks.

Easter Lilies are perennials and over the years will spread
.
The natural time for them to bloom in North America (at least around the Great Lakes) is just before the feast of the Assumption in August

If you take this years crop (forced to bloom at Easter), let it rest a couple weeks (indoors in a garage etc) until the threat of frost is over, then plant it in you garden, it will bloom again this year.
It only needs about 4-5 hours of direct sunlight per day to produce a display like below.  These pictures were taken the year after planting.

Your gardens and lilies are very, very nice. So inspiring, thank you for sharing. I love how you dedicated one to Our Lord and one to our Lady.

Thank you, Our Lady is in the front yard and the Sacred Heart is just off the back patio.

What a great idea. That is a lovely little garden you have there!

This reminds me of the time when my youngest was born in April of 2024. My MIL brought me a pretty purple hyacinth in a little pot that she purchased at Walmart that I might enjoy it in my hospital room, since I would be there for a few days. Instead of discarding it when it was spent, we planted it in our garden in hopes it would bloom next year. Indeed it did, and this year too. Except TWO flowers came up this year so it is multiplying. How exciting and heart warming it has been to see it poke through both years. It is blooming right now. Every time I pass it, I think about our little Veronica, who bloomed in April, the fresh new babe in my arms.
