  • This is a particular vice that I struggle with. Of all things coming home from Holy Mass today some idiot cut right in front of me on the interstate. I tooted my horn and he gave me the middle finger for about 10 seconds. Of course I felt the need to return the gesture.

Obviously, this is most likely a sin...but would this be a mortal sin or a venial sin? After I cooled down a bit I did offer a prayer for him but that was of course after I returned the finger.

Why get upset?  Did you react out of fear, (ie.,nearly caused an accident?) or was it pure anger that someone would get ahead of you?  It seems to me I'd prefer a road raging driver ahead of me where I can watch him, than on my tail.  Yes, I think it was a sin since you came from Mass and, likely, Communion.  Whether mortal or venial, ask your priest.  Perhaps you should have a Crucifix where you can see Our Lord as you drive.  When tempted, look at Him and offer it up.  Why waste an opportunity to gain graces?  If God sends you crazy drivers, accept them as His gift.  Continue praying for therm, but definitely quit returning the anger.  "A mild answer turns away wrath..." Proverbs 15:1
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • Not exactly the bird, but hey...maybe it will elevate your mood if not also your spirit.
    Matthew 6:34
" Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof."
