  • Good question.  All things are possible with God.  In the natural order, though, when a person has made the same decision over and over, they become incapable of making a different decision.  Then, too, when a great leader is responsible for the loss of many souls, God often gets His back up.

  • "Would you all agree that it's more likely for Pope Benedict to experience some sort of conversion of heart than if he were still just Cardinal Ratzinger? Wouldn't the office of Pope bring with it the prayers of countless Catholics as well as the divine assistance of the office?"

Not only that, but he has the Holy Ghost to protect him from teaching outright heresy.

We must pray for the Holy Father.  If even just a fraction of the rumours surrounding him are true, he is sorely in need of our prayers.

  •     I appreciate what Trinity had to say about leadership. I think God's wisdom is expressed throughout creation. To use a silly analogy, if all Catholic phone lines are busy (damaged by apostasy & etc.) I guess the non Catholic and even just plain secular world  become God's sounding board. I think we are at the point where donkeys and even the rocks will start speaking about the current situation.

Personally, I hope we get back to basics and like St. Jerome indicated :  If Saints Peter and Paul didn't talk about it in the bible, then don't sweat the small stuff. I like Lee Iacocca's thoughts in "Where have all the leaders gone" He says about public officials : "these guys are supposed to serve us! " . I know it doesn't sound Catholic, but the Pope is our servant. The lowest, most meek should be able to present his concerns to the Church at large, including the Pope. Healing the sick, teaching the public the basic tennets of the Faith - Back to Basics. Since these times appear to be as bad as Noah's time, then an arc of spiritual safety should be built.

    Take care,

    Mike P.
