  • Hello,
I have somehow gotten my hands on about several hundred Divine Mercy cards because it came complimentary with a bulk order of Rosaries that I bought. The chaplet was 'condemed' by 2 Popes, and I am wondering what to do with all of these cards. Should I give them to a Church or discard of them? And if I am to discard of them, how can I properly discard of them?

    Thank you!
    Merry Christmas!:)

  • I think "Divine Mercy" is a scam so if I was in your place I would trash them. Holy cards are not blessed so there is no issue with dumping them.

  • Even though it’s a fraud and a scam, it’s still a depiction of Our Lord, problematic as it is. So I would say burn.
Please disregard everything I have said; I have tended to speak before fact checking.

If you're in Los Angeles County you could get a fine for burning them, since there is a moratorium on burning any wood, paper or other wood product material. They're handing out citations for lighting your fireplace even if it's a gas log fire. No barbecues.
    .
So far they haven't made smoking tobacco illegal.
    .
But ironically, come January 1st, marijuana will become legal, so I guess you won't be fined for burning that. Go figure.
    .
To be safe, I'd say bury the cards with some lye mixed in. If you don't have any lye then sprinkle Liquid Plumber or the like on them. Bury them deep enough so your dog won't dig them up!

  • You could perhaps cut them in pieces with scissors.  Then bag them and send them to the landfill.  You said you only have a few hundred.  That really shouldn't take too long to do.

  • Our local bank conducts Community Shred Days a few times a year (to help combat identity theft) in which you can bring in any paper docuмents in a bag and they will shred them at no cost to the individual.  They use an industrial shredder and the shredded paper is then recycled.  They don't inspect the docuмents and I've used them to shred many things that don't necessarily have anything to do with identity theft.

Perhaps you have something similar in your area.

I agree, burn them when the moratorium is over.

  • Burn them.  Stay safe and within the law, but burning is best.

Is that because of the fire danger or because of air quality?  We occasionally have "no burn days" where I live because of air quality.

    .
The ban on burning wood, wood products or gas log fireplaces was put into effect before the wild fires started but as usual, the liberals behind the ban argue that the wildfires only reinforce the legitimacy of the ban. I don't think there has been a wild fire around here blamed on sparks from someone's fireplace.
    .
It was first started because of air quality concerns but I couldn't see anything unusually bad about the air. Actually, if air quality was measurably worse it seems to me that could be explained by the chemtrails we've been seeing almost every day over L.A.

From the looks of things this moratorium might be a permanent fixture with Jerry Moonbeam Brown for Governor.
They've already made it impossible to get a building permit when your plans include a fireplace in new construction.
No fireplaces are found in any new homes anywhere in California.
About 80 years ago back yard incinerators were commonplace but they were outlawed in the 1950's.
Los Angelenos used to dispose of household trash that way but the smoky skies were pretty noxious.
I recall having painful breathing in the 60's on smoggy days. Air quality has improved a lot since then.
