This is a book of guidelines and recommendations for adapting classical education to one's family.  Unlike most programs calling themselves classical, this one makes Latin the main subject, rather than just one subject among others.

The author describes his approach in this essay: [url=https://www.memoriapress.com/articles/multum-non-multa/]https://www.memoriapress.com/articles/multum-non-multa/

    Quote
The classical curriculum, on the other hand, insists on a limited number of demanding subjects taught in depth. Moreover, formal study of certain subjects—especially science and modern languages—is reserved for high school. As we’ll see, this is actually an efficient use of the student’s time and effort.

  • I used Our lady of victory school for 3 years growing up. It was my favorite! Seton was a nightmare. I had planned on using OLVS with the kids too, and still have some of there books.

  • Aargh! I messed up the formatting.  The name of the book I recommended is The  Latin Centered Curriculum: A Home Educator's Guide to a Classical Education.

What about math, history, etc?  Have you used O.L. of Victory or Seton?

  • Our Lady of Victory and Seton curriculum.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

There were three subjects that we did every day; Religion (using Seton's materials), Latin, and Math. Other subjects, like history, we only studied formally once or twice a week.  However, I made sure that there was suitable historical fiction for free time reading.  We also visited historical sites where they could see reconstructed buildings and re-enactors.

I used Seton the year that I began homeschooling.  I found it overwhelming.

  • How do colleges evaluate these home school programs?  Or do they?
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

My daughter goes to a small Catholic college at which many/most of the students were homeschooled.  A place like that is familiar with homeschool programs.  I doubt that big/secular colleges are.  They tend to look at SAT scores, sometimes in combination with a portfolio of the student's work, so they don't really care about the high school program.

  • We had Seton from 1992-2003 and I was happy with it.  I was with Our Lady of the Rosary for a while, and for the young group, it was very good.  Seton had their own Science books and they did a great job.  Catholicism in all curriculum.  If a student can read, they can follow instructions and do their work w/o parent.  Program is set up for part time working parent.  Their curriculum goes into college as well.

Math in last year high school needed a tutor.  It was the math we do not use with negatives, positives, in () and such.  Other than that, I was pleased.  We went year round, which is important to not feel rushed.  You do it at your pace.

Yes, I choose yearly which books to purchase from OLV and which ones from Seton. It varies by year. Sometimes, I like the ones from Seton better because they usually have beautiful images in them; but OLV also has some good content in their workbooks. For the subject of Religion, I use the OLV series mainly, for example.
