I too am in LA (by the way Raoul, I'm only aware of CMRI in Fontana and Santa Clarita, both pretty significant drives from Manhattan Beach!) and I've been pretty doubtful that anything meaningful will change under Gomez for a few reasons...
One is Gomez's own words. He's gone out of his way to put people at ease that nothing drastic will occur and he's lionized his predecessors 'accomplishments' in the archdiocese.
He's done *nothing* about the elephant in the room, the lavendar mafia in the arch of LA. Call the chancery, and if a male answers you're sure to hear a lisp. St. Johns seminary is a known hotbed of ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity (Goodbye, Good Men by Michael S. Rose, anyone?) And he's done no housecleaning. If he was 'conservative' in any real sense, he'd pull the weeds by their roots and handle this first. An entire next 'generation' of seminarians coming out of there, without change, would mean another nest of lisping vipers running parishes for 30 years.
Lastly, Mahoney is no fool, and I'm told by a connection I cannot divulge, that Mahoney went on a 'committee creating spree' shortly after Rome gave notice he was 'being retired'. These committees are staffed by 'activist' lay, and Mahoney made sure to convince them they have actual, real power, and it will take a long time for Gomez to straighten all these people out,( if he even wants to) or eliminate these committees etc.
Basically, Mahoney made sure Gomez would be hamstrung for quite some time, 'just in case'
