Halal is food suitable for Muslims, following the Muslim rulesfor eating.
You are not eating because it is halal, but because it is food which is readily available.
St Paul tells the Romans:
[11] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=11-#x) For it is written: As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. [12] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=12-#x) Therefore every one of us shall render account to God for himself. [13] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=13-#x) Let us not therefore judge one another any more. But judge this rather, that you put not a stumblingblock or a scandal in your brother's way. [14] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=14-#x) I know, and am confident in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. [15] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=15-#x) For if, because of thy meat, thy brother be grieved, thou walkest not now according to charity. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.
[16] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=16-#x) Let not then our good be evil spoken of. [17] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=17-#x) For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but justice, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. [18] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=18-#x) For he that in this serveth Christ, pleaseth God, and is approved of men. [19] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=19-#x)Therefore let us follow after the things that are of peace; and keep the things that are of edification one towards another. [20] (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=52&ch=14&l=20-#x) Destroy not the work of God for meat. All things indeed are clean: but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
So... Say your prayers before you eat, bless us Our Lord and these thy gifts, go ahead and enjoy your food. Halal is not sacriced to idols. How much stronger is God's blessing on you food than a muslim blessing.

That's correct. If I'm not mistaken that was confirmed in the council of Florence.

Yes, halal meat is not sacrificed to idols. I agree it's OK to eat.
In my area, regular foods and halal of the same type are the same price and usually from the same company. A nearby meat shop catering to halal uses animals all slaughtered the same way, although they sell some meat not marked halal at the same price. So I don't think buying halal food is subsidizing anything in most cases.
Halal dietary restrictions are kind of lite kosher. It basically means no pork, no alcohol, and no blood as an ingredient (blood sausage, blood soup, hematogen bars). Animals must be slaughtered a certain way, including animals whose by-products are used in many processed foods. If halal food is not available, most muslims will buy kosher as that has no pork, and animals would be slaughtered appropriately.
And FYI, kosher salt is just salt with a crystal size that is good for drying meat. It's called kosher because it is used in preparing kosher meats.
