Question about guardian angels

  • Just learned about guardian angels and the other angel assigned on one's birthday. As I understand it, the only way to cultivate a relationship with them is through St. Michaels Chaplet.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaplet_of_Saint_Michael

A friend of mine told me yesterday that you can ask them their name and they will reveal it however this friend is not a traditional Catholic, though he he is quite conservative.

I kinda suspect that this name thing is not a traditional teaching but may of crept in with some of the new age stuff.

Anyone ever heard of this? (asking your angel his name)

  • I've never heard of it. It would probably be best to just pray to God and ask Him to reveal to you who your guardian angel is.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Thursday, please don't tread there, asking the name of your Guardian Angel.

There are some Church approved books-ask Matthew at his ChantCD website and he can connect you with good study material.

May God bless you, and may the Holy Angels keep you safe.

  • St. Michaels Chaplet is not the only way to cultivate a relationship with St Michael or the angels.

There are many prayers and devotions.

And what is the supposed need or good of knowing the name of the guardian angel? That is not a traditional Catholic concept. Sounds like new ageism or esoterism to me.

Your guardian angel and God are much more concerned about you praying to your guardian angel, rather supposedly having a name to address him with.

  • Yes, I understand, it sounded very strange. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this. I had no intention of asking my angel his name.

I did do St Michael's Chaplet for the first time. Makes me wonder else I've been missing out on.
