  • I have a new book coming out soon.

I wrote it before I converted to the Church; although, when I wrote it, I was still searching for God.  I had just left the Baptist denomination.

Nevertheless, cusswords abound, as I was a younger fellow in those days.  The story takes the tone of Catcher in the Rye, and ends rather like a Flannery O'Connor story.

At the time, I considered it to be a Christian work, though I would not write a story like it today.  At least, not in that fashion.  If it is one major beef I have with it, it is the cuss words.  I use plenty.  While one may consider removing them, I did not because they characterize the protagonist.

In any event, it will be available soon, and I was wondering about your thoughts on a book styled like that.

  • write a new book and have a traditional Bishop give it an imprimatur(sp) if there is heresy in your other book and you publish it with it, you end up propagating heresy whether or not it is your intent.

  • Wouldn't it only be eligible for imprimatur (or even nihil obstat) if it addresses matters of Faith or Dogma??

I am not sure sir, as I have never written or published a book. I thought an imprimatur was an affirmation that there was no heresy inside the book. I could be wrong.

Either way, he should go through the book he's written and take out the profane and make sure there are no baptist heresies lurking about.

  • It sounds like an interesting read.  I would buy it.

You may want to write a foreword or a postscript, letting the reader know where and how you came to find the truth, and to dispel any heretical ideas presented on your journey.

  • It's not an instructional book.  It is a fiction, based loosely on true events.  I do not know if I can say too much more than that for now.

It's not really a Catholic fiction, though, perhaps it tried to go in that direction.  The next book will be a Catholic fiction, however.
