Mardi Gras is everyday for many Catholics.
Mardi Gras is a tradition of the Catholic faith. Literally translated from the french as Fat Tuesday, i.e. Ash Wednesday Eve, when Catholic families, of which mine was one, would use up the remnants of fat or butter, usually by making pancakes, which is why we used to call it Pancake Tuesday. Of course we kids enjoyed this special treat before starting out on our 40 days of deprivation.

Like all Catholic traditions this name has been usurped in the cause of denigrating what is good.
