Well, the interesting thing here is, whether in the Church, or out of the Church, the words in the Bible are true, that if a work is of men... fake, false, self-serving and man-made... it WILL fail and fall apart. But if it be of God, it will stand.
Whether it's VII, or the protestant religions, if they're man-made, they WILL fall apart, for many reasons. And what do you know? Basically only tradition is both "holding" and even growing, rather than dying out or falling apart, or getting more and more watered down to nothing.
If the fake religions offer a social club, well... parties with friends are MORE fun and MORE social. If it's entertainment... well, concerts and games and movies are MORE entertaining. If it's self-help, well... one-on-one counseling with a paid counselor is even more exclusive to MeMeMeMeMe, and thus will bring about even more "self help" (eg, more nifs and silencing of the conscience). If they offer advice, hey... I can get that anywhere. Reading the bible? I can do that at home!
Whatever man-made religions offer, there is something much, much better somewhere else that the person can get without going to that church or being part of that religion. And the fact that religion has become for most people, the religion of the almighty self, means that people are more likely than ever to do just that... to just go to that something better or more fulfilling than what they're being offered. (The, "I believe in God, but don't belong to any 'religion'" crowd, for example... which is huge already and ever growing. Basically they've figured it out. If what they're offered is not maximally fulfilling and without ridiculousness or contradictions... they just do their own thing.)
It only makes sense that all false religions will eventually die out, for the most part. And the more they boil down to self-worship, the faster people will find the door. Look at that "springtime in the Church" ... Looks more like winter, now...
