  • Yes, I have, it came up during the last Papal Conclave. I'm not old enough to remember the last, but I'd suspect the press brings it up at each one.

    The prophecy says the next pope is Peter II, right?

    The prophecy usually *only* makes sense in retrospect, and given enough creativity on the part of the interpreter, the prophecy is never wrong.

    Example, BXVI was supposed to have something to do with olives I think? And so adherents point out he was a big fan of 'Olivetan' (Benedictine) spirituality.

    A stretch.

  • And, if one is a serious sede, how does one number the guys "subsisting in" the Chair of Peter post Vatican 2?

    I believe that St Malachy counted and labeled all popes (real and anti).
    In the church of St John Latern in Rome, there are large pictures of all the popes to the present.  Popes and known antipopes are included.  There is room on the wall for only one more pope.
