    Quote
DUBLIN, Ireland, November 14, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — Defenders of life around the world, including anyone with Irish heritage, are being asked to submit their views supporting the country’s embattled Eighth Amendment to its extraordinary Citizens’ Assembly.

The Eighth Amendment of Ireland’s Constitution, which recognizes that unborn children have a right to life equal to that of the mother, is the first of five items on the agenda of the 99-person Citizens’ Assembly, the members of which were selected by a market research organization appointed by the newly-elected government to discuss several issues, including climate change and a housing shortage. With pressure from international human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and the Europe’s Human Rights Council, the government has deferred the divisive issue to the assembly.

“We want organizations and people from all over the world — especially those of Irish descent — to tell the Irish governmenthow dreadful it would be to see the protection that Ireland is well known for providing the unborn damaged in any way,” said Maria Madise, the international director for the London-based Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.

The Citizens’ Assembly, which met for the first time in October, is accepting  submissions on “the Eighth” until December 16 at citizensassembly.ie and is slated to make its recommendations next June. The Dail — the Irish parliament — is expected to discuss the issues until December and then decide whether to hold a referendum on rewriting the amendment in the spring of 2018.

Niamh Ui Bhriain, head of Dublin’s Life Institute, says a referendum on the Eighth Amendment is almost a certainty. “The Citizens’ Assembly is a farce,” she told LifeSiteNews — or at least its consideration of the Eighth Amendment is. “Several cabinet ministers have already come out in favor of a referendum.”

Though the Assembly’s website only allows 500-word entries to be written on the page, it also invites downloads of larger docuмents. Madise and colleague Patrick Buckley would like copies of any submissions sent to them for the record at mariamadise@spuc.org.uk> or patrick.buckley48@yahoo.co.uk.

“I am certain,” Madise said, “that Amnesty International, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and other George Soros-funded globalists will be making their submissions”

The Eighth Amendment, also known as Article 40.3.3, acknowledges the equal rights of the mother and unborn child. It did not allow abortion to save a woman’s life but did permit efforts to save the mother that unintentionally might lead to the child’s death.

After a Supreme Court decision, however, in the infamous X case, the European Court of Human Rights in its judgment on a later case known as the ABC case called for more clarity, leading to a 2013 law that permits abortion on the grounds of threatened ѕυιcιdє. "In the long term,” Madise said, “we must work to reinstate the amendment to the fullness of its original scope and overturn the pro-abortion legislation.”

Niamh Ui Bhriain told LifeSiteNews, “It’s absurd and horrifying that the members of this Citizens’ Assembly will be voting on which category of children will live and which will die. The right to life is fundamental. The Eighth Amendment merely acknowledges the right. It doesn’t give the right.”

She said her organization, the Life Institute, and Youth Defence, have been preparing for the referendum for a year. That’s when they began training volunteers for the “Life Canvas,” a plan to visit every home in Ireland. “So far we’ve knocked on 120,000,” she said. “There are 1.1 million in all.”

Knocking on doors reveals most Irish to be pro-life, she reports, “but they have questions.” Hopefully, by next spring, most will have answers. The campaign website is www.yestolifeireland.org.

  • All the MSM are biased towards abortion. Catholic Newspapers like the Irish Catholic are weak in their defence, and the less said about the efforts of the Irish hierarchy the better. The Citizen's Assembly is wholly biased toward abortion.

  • According to their own media a pro-life group from England are currently outside the Central Bank in Dublin, Ireland. They are showing the truth of abortion. Groups like SPUC and PLC oppose this of course. Youth Defence show the truth of abortion every week in Dublin.

People are very liberal in Dublin. The group currently outside the bank in Dublin went live on Facebook. The corrupt media will probably ignore them or present their display as 'extremists'

Groups like SPUC in Britain were ineffective but there is a slow fight back in Britain. Here in Ireland there is a 'Walk Against Abortion' taking place in December. It seems to be organised by a prayer group. I know nothing about the group but feel the walk should be supported. Many probably won't attend as it is religious. Preference is for the secular campaign.

Ideally there should be a rosary rally organised in the midlands or regional parts of Ireland. Recently the Legion of Mary in Navan revived the public rosary. Lay Catholics prayed the rosary in public once a month in their town.

  • Allegations of bias persist as Citizens' Assembly considers the abortion issue

The Citizens' Assembly will finally begin discussing abortion today amid continuing allegations of bias in its composition and criticisms of some expert contributors.

The 99 citizens, selected at random to form a cross section of Irish society, will begin their deliberations under chairwoman Ms Justice Mary Laffoy of the Supreme Court at the Grand Hotel in Malahide.
Tipperary Independent TD Mattie McGrath said he had no doubts about the impartiality and integrity of Judge Laffoy.

But Mr McGrath said the body did not have any representative from 11 counties and he added that two expert witnesses had already publicly expressed controversial views on abortion and related issues which raised questions about their suitability.
"Citizens from counties Tipperary, Leitrim, Cavan, Louth, Sligo, Longford, Offaly, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford and Kerry are entirely absent, which cannot be accepted," Mr McGrath said.

Mr McGrath also used Dáil privilege to raise questions about two expert witnesses.
Mr McGrath said former Master of Holles Street Maternity Hospital, Dr Declan Keane, told a constitutional committee back in 2000 that he was dissatisfied that "abortions for fatal abnormalities could not be performed in Irish hospitals".

Mr McGrath said the issue of fatal foetal abnormalities was likely to occur in the assembly's deliberations. He questioned whether someone with a stated view could be an "impartial expert".
Mr McGrath equally used Dáil privilege to question the involvement of Professor Deirdre Madden from University College Cork who was on the commission on human reproduction set up by the former Health Minister Micheál Martin.

The commission's 2005 report recommended that "destructive research on human embryos" should be permitted.
In response to Mr McGrath's comments that there were no representatives from 11 counties, a spokeswoman for the Citizens' Assembly said members were chosen by the polling firm Red C using census data to balance for age, gender and regional location.

The two-day session will open with a welcoming address from Ms Justice Laffoy.
Various lawyers, historians and medical experts will address the assembly today and tomorrow.

Three more working sessions are planned on the issue.

  • A Catholic from the six counties wrote the following. The six counties are the counties under occupation from Britain though perhaps both Britain and Ireland have the same occupiers.

    Quote
I wrote this today to show support to our Pro Life comrades in the south.

    Repeal the 8th
People think the repeal is coming.
And, we're running out of time
    To change what will happened.

Oh, your so very very wrong.
    They continue with their chanting,
Repeal the 8th, Repeal the 8th
The killing of babies that have no voice,
Not in our name, not in our name.
    Murder is what they want.

love is not what they give or want,
To destroy womanhood is their aim.
love is not what they give or want,
A Terror campaign on mothers and babies,
All in the name of choice.

They I refer to as the Pro abortionists,
So they want murder of the innocent babies
    Without any interference ...
From a island that's never known disgrace.
With Ireland’s wonderful healthcare being attacked,
They think they will have abortion on demand.

    Genocide in our island,
Not a chance, the Irish will fight.
So they say abortion is in the making.
    I don't think so. Remember 1916
‘We Cherish all of our nations Children equally,
So guess what that door is firmly shut.
    Ireland has her morals.

She will never let her soul die,
Ireland is about a mothers pleasure,
Seeing her baby grow in love no matter how long that Life maybe.
A mothers pleasure. Save the 8th.

  • The same author also wrote the following. It's very good. He has a disability.

    Quote
In this I write about being Hibernian, Hibernianism is very much part of Irish history, our Holy Catholic Faith, Our heritage, Language,
Being A Hibernian is an Honour and Privilege, Faith and Fatherland.
Being Pro Life is the most important part of being Irish, and quite frankly it is very much Irish. It is who I am I live, breath and walk it. It's me.

1916 our Proclamation stated very Clearly,
'IRISHMEN AND IRISHWOMEN: In the name of God and of the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom'

cherishing all of the children of the nation equally,
We place the cause of the Irish Republic under the protection of the Most High God, Whose blessing we invoke upon our arms, and we pray that no one who serves that cause will dishonour it by cowardice, inhumanity, or rapine. In this supreme hour the Irish nation must, by its valour and discipline, and by the readiness of its children to sacrifice themselves for the common good, prove itself worthy of the august destiny to which it is called.

We should stand with valour and defend the faith and our most Precious Value the 'Right to Life' of this Island unborn citizens, weather your Disabled or Not your Part of this Nation,
In the Name of God, 'Cherish all of the Nations children equally'
Those who do not respect God and Life is Dishonouring our Nation and our Heros,
Being silent kills, Speaking out saves lives.

  • "Secular pro-life groups "must take up the banner of God or be left behind by those who do", Kathy Sinnott

I didn't make it to the conference today in Tralee but gave it a little publicity in the lead up to the event. Ireland has no excuse and whilst I oppose a referendum if it were to be 'won' by the enemies Ireland has chosen evil. People of a certain age have no excuse. Younger people growing up don't have the faith.

I would favour blocking having a referendum. pro life groups need to be careful about being bankrupted by the enemy.

Obviously you can oppose abortion by using a non religious argument but I could never agree if a Catholic plays down or hides their Catholicism.

From time to time you get people who say 'count me out of pro-life' if the campaign is religious.

  • For the second time ever I listened to Celtic Connections Radio via the EWTN Ireland website. Kathy Sinnott played the audio of her recent talk at a pro-life meeting.

I wasn't aware a priest wearing a cassock was told to hide at a pro-life rally in Ireland. According to Kathy Sinnott a priest was told to go to the back of the crowd because he wore his cassock.

He was told it was for the good of the pro-life cause. She mentions how images of Our Lady were banned also.

In her talk she also mentions how for the past ten years or so the faith has been left out of the battle in public. All in all a good talk. Those interested can listen to the audio on the EWTN Ireland website.

I agree with her that the fight must take place under the banner of the Cross and agree with prayer and sacrifice in public and private. I agree with her about public witness.

Abortion can be opposed by non religious argument but a priest should  never be told to go to the back of the crowd because he was wearing a cassock.

Pro-life vigils and rallies are to be encouraged but it is wrong to tell a priest to hide. Apparently the priest asked the organisers and it was they who suggested he go to the back of the crowd for the good of the pro-life cause.

Our country is consecrated to Christ the King yet many want to leave Christ out of the battle.

I still maintain Catholics should attend the marches and rallies. Two years ago in Dublin I marched through the streets but left before the rapper took to the stage. I think we can apply common sense. Fewer attended this year in Belfast so I don't believe the rapper made any any impact. I'm guessing he was brought in to attract young people.

It's best to apply what Kathy Sinnott has outlined.

  • Here is a submission I made:

"The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right." --- 8th ammendment to the Irish Constitution

    ACCEPTED SUBMISSION:
In order for any group to consider changing this article in our Irish Constitution, one must understand the reasons why many do not want it removed. I shall speak for myself in the knowledge that I speak for many of my friends and others.
There are two laws that I as a Catholic are obliged to adhere to, God’s Law and the natural law. The word ‘abort’ is another word for kill. To deny this is dishonest, no matter the circuмstances. Every one of us living today, on the Commission and outside of it, can be thankful our mothers, and fathers, and in some cases our grandparents, did not abort us or were responsible for such abortions. We live in a society that abhors ‘killers’ and they are put into jail for doing so. Indeed there was a time their own execution was deemed justified for that crime. For the last 50 years or so, our society considered killing them was abhorrent and ceased the practice. It mattered not how they killed their victims. With many male killers, they raped their victims before killing them. This proves civilised society now considers killing fellow human beings is no longer acceptable

Would that this ethic was applied to an unborn child. To remove our Irish 8th amendment so that the unborn can be killed because of the circuмstances of their conception is to treat the unborn as less worthy than murderers, even serial killers. This amendment abolition is intended to allow the killing of the unborn for this reason and that reason. We know this from experience. It is now true that the most dangerous place for human beings is in the wombs of those who conceive them. The statistics show that the numbers of abortions worldwide far outnumber humans killed in all the wars around the world. We are talking about millions.

In Ireland at the present, we are not at the forefront of this ‘childocide.’ Amending our constitution to join those who kill the unborn at will is what this is all about and let us not hide the fact behind fancy words that pretend to be for the common good. Ways can be found to help those whose conceptions are not out of love. The gift of life to another human being surely will compensate for stress of continuing that pregnancy. The child after all is not responsible for the means of its conception and should not be killed for it.

Finally I come to Catholic theology that has eternal consequences for children aborted. Yes I know Ireland today has rejected the teachings of the Church, but they remain as true as the scriptures are true and historic, and are as true as the many miraculous preserved bodies of saints are throughout the world. The point I make is that baptism is necessary for a person to enjoy the Beatific Vision for all eternity. Abortion prevents a child for receiving baptism. Those who abort because their child will die soon afterwards prevent this eternal bliss. This is the main reason I as a Catholic abhor abortion.

It is also Catholic teaching that all who assist in bringing about the killing of the unborn souls will share in this crime against God’s sixth commandment. Such a tenet may well be disbelieved and rejected in this life by many, but in Catholic charity we say it to try to help others avoid what will be. Proof of this we have none, but there will come a time when we all will find out if its true.

  • The Dublin based Life Institute which had a disagreement with Father MacDonald shared the following.

    Quote
We are asking you to mark your calendar for March 28th – the day we hope to get EVERY pro-life activist out on the biggest Life Canvass yet as we talk to the nation about why we must Save the 8th and protect mothers and babies from abortion.

We know that the canvass – our strategy to reach out and talk to the people in the most convincing way possible – is absolutely key to winning the referendum on abortion.
So plan to be there now! Events will be local so there is no need to travel. See you on the 28th

In the North Precious Life have just announced a 40 days campaign of fasting and praying. People around the country appear to be backing a campaign with the faith and prayer involved. Not everyone will agree.

A few months ago I mentioned to a fellow Catholic that a group are praying the rosary on a weekly basis in a church. She felt it was no good they hiding away and need to be out on the streets.

Atleast the Catholic Voice newspaper is organising a series of meetings around the country. The Life Institute appear to have conceded we will have a referendum. Obviously we don't know the mind of God. Obviously we need to continue to pray.

The Life Institute, Youth Defence etc etc won't put public prayer at the fore of the battle but as lay Catholics we can engage in an effective strategy. Personally I wouldn't bother with the Diocesan Bishops here.

The secular groups have their role but the campaign should involve the public prayer that Kathy Sinnott spoke about.  Even a couple of regional rosary rallies and processions could be organised. A few people around the country are open to organising things but never get the support or publicity.

I was admonished for attending a pro-life rally so you can't win with people. For example some trads in the United States have valid concerns about the march for life. I hold a view our people should attend events regardless. It's never a waste.

  • Thank God for you and others who say rosary for this Holy War.

Be sure to give no money at all to any diocese!  We  know that they are Marxist and they do support abortion, not to mention more.  Even those clergy who speak against abortion, as long as they are of "diocese" give no $.  Pro-life talks are to support the dioceses. It is a smoke screen.

I do hope that what I say here, is old news.  If not, take heed!  My prayers for this Holy War.
