  • I will have a chance to give a presentation to grade 5 kids in a public school to teach them about the catholic faith. The kids are of different religious backgrounds, I'm not a technical guy and I'm told  to use power point, any suggestions of how to give the kids a good lesson in 45 minutes?

  • Teach them that outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation and then tell them about traditional Catholicism and tell them that it is with the traditional Catholics that the true Church is.

  • Fr. John Furniss was a children's missioner. You might use some extracts from his works.

    Yes this!

  • Since it is public school are you allowed to convey doctrine or is just supposed to be an outline of what Catholics "do" e.g. Mass, Holy Days, Holy water, prayers, religious life, etc.  Are people with other beliefs presenting also?

  • Pray a lot to Our Lady to help you.  Especially the Rosary.  And do some penance (fasting) beforehand as well.

I'm the only one presenting, I have free reign to try andconvert the non Catholic kids as best as I can. I don't think I wold get into details about the mass, holy days etc. BasicallyI want to them to realize the Catholic faith is the true faith.

  • .

    This is a great opportunity!!!

There may be students there who know nothing about Catholicism, and have never met anyone who represents the Church in this manner.   So the impression you give them could last their lifetime.

I recommend that you do some serious praying in advance, to Our Lady (who taught and/or learned from Our Lord Himself as a child), and to St. Francis Xavier, who evangelized the Orient when they had never heard the Gospel.

I would also recommend that you would get in touch with the St. Benedict Center in Richmond N.H., because their motto is "The Conversion of America," and what good does it do to worry about an ignorant noble native in a far away wasteland if you can't convince your own neighbor next door that the Church teaches the truth?  They might be able to help you with a Power Point presentation of some kind.

A short video of Don Bosco's missions might be useful because he had a way of bringing joy and enthusiasm into the lives of poor children, and kids always take well to exciting stuff like joy and enthusiasm.

If you could say a few words about "LOVE FOR THE TRUTH," it could well be all news to them.  A serious blemish on our modern world is that we have lost our love for the truth.  Maybe that will ring true to some of your listeners.

I have a really hard time believing this. How did you get this job?

job? who said anything about being paid, my friend is a teacher at a public school, he has to teach occasionally some class called ethics where he goes over all the religions ,he said i can give a lesson on the Catholic faith, little does he know these non catholic kids don't know what's in store for them, I can just envision the Muslim kids going home telling their parents how someone at school taught that their religion is false, we'll see, thanks to the others here who gave good material

    Yes, absolutely this.

Hopefully you can work in a short lesson about Our Blessed Mother, all children understand the love and necessity of a mother. The three Fatima Children might be a good theme?
