  • At mass I recognized a young man, sitting in my pew (is my pew the outcast pew?) from the SSPX chapel who seems to possibly have been exiled to the indult for the time being.

He's not a tall kid, I have a hard time believing he's more than 20, but I suppose it's possible.

He was sitting beside a young pregnant woman, who also looks like a teenager.

Hopefully things will work out them, but I have a feeling it's a sad sign of the current situation among young trads.

No, it is possible they are married, but given the overall circuмstances, it seems unlikely.

They seem to be very young.

  • I don't know -- when I see teenagers today, they seem *very* young to me. I think to myself, "We didn't used to look that young when WE were teenagers back in the early 90's!"

I guess I'm just getting old.

  • Young people look like children to old people

Often hear old people complain about doctors who look like children

    Maybe they are married

    Maybe they have childlike faces

Maybe sins are for God and Confessor to know

  • I agree with NyIndech- it's not really anyone's business is it? Apart from their own, and God's.

We know that we're all sinners, and that at least some of the congregation at our churches go to Confession (hopefully, us too!), so the fact that we all sin should be no surprise to each other. IF the lady in question is expecting out of wedlock (and you should always assume the best- for example, when my Mum was expecting after several years of marriage, her fingers swelled up so she couldn't wear her wedding ring. I'm sure there were probably a few raised eyebrows from nosy Catholics!) then it's wonderful that she is coming to Mass instead of having drifted away or lost the Faith, as so many do.

If we all had our sins paraded around, we'd be mortified. Young unmarried girls who find themselves expecting have to bear the consequences for many months and years, even if their sins are confessed and forgiven long ago. To come to Mass when they know others may be giving them the eye and looking at their ring finger takes courage.

  • We have a few teens at the Mount with babies and unwed, but I agree its no ones business, I see the young mothers going to communion, so I assume God has forgiven them, and if God has forgiven them who are we not to.

In today's world the young people are victims of this modern culture, some of them must learn the hard way.  I feel bad, but let the sinless cast the first stone.

Let me just make something perfectly clear, I recognized the young fellow first, I only noticed the girl was pregnant after mass.  Kind of hard to miss.

Observing that unwed motherhood is occurring regularly among Trads is definitely the business of people concerned about the future of Traditional Catholicism.

I just made an observation.  I thought it interesting the kid was going to indult instead of SSPX.  I haven't seen him there before.

Yes, that's true.  Which is why allowing excessive drinking, failing to homeschool or cut out modern media is wrong.

Am I making it my business?  I'm simply making an observation.  Are we supposed to pretend things are better than they are?  Or should we recognize when there is a problem?

There is a huge problem with illegitimacy and single motherhood in society as a whole.

Catholics need to be aware this problem is something that affects them.  If you don't see pregnant unmarried girls at the SSPX chapels, maybe it's because they're sent off the indult.

Sure.  But I think frankly, if this is response to someone pointing out that things are not going well among Trad youth, then it won't be long before there's no way to distinguish Trad youth from the youth of society at large.

Some sins are public.  It's called scandal.  And other times, people give "warnings" about other people and their conduct.

I'm not trying to shame the girl.  So I don't know who you're talking to.

I'm observing the reality in tradland.

  • Perhaps take page from Jesus Christ

    Be friendly to them

Maybe they feel surrounded by judging eyes

Help them feel welcome regardless of their situation

Giving cold shoulder or whispering about them only drive them away

Driving people away from church doesn't help them or anyone

? I don't know what you're talking about.  Who wants to drive anyone away?

Who is giving them a cold shoulder?  How is it gossip to speak of an unnamed person, whom I haven't pointed out, who anyone can see is pregnant?

I wonder how often they attend SSPX these days.

  • I'm glad they are attending Mass.  It would be much easier to stay away and avoid the shame and judgment.  It takes courage to face one's mistakes.

I can't recall the exact citation but I recall a Scripture quote along the lines of "they have been forgiven much because they loved much."

The verses of the prodigal are applicable here as well.
For it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be dispersed. Matthew 26:31
