  • Could someone please give some good traditional Catholic sources about how the husband is to be the head and how the wife is to obey him? Thank you.

You can read the whole book here.

It's called, "Marriage and Parenthood: The Catholic Ideal."

    Enjoy.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

  • Yea! A freebie!
    Have you read it, PFT?

I don't suppose you know of anything similar not written by a priest, do you? Not that I find the priests disagreable, but find the writings of those more inclined to share personal experiences are more enjoyable to read.

  • Ephesians 5:21-33
"Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ. Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body.  Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it:

That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life:  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church:  Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular love his wife as himself: and let the wife fear her husband."

Also I am reading a good book at the moment called The Catholic Marriage Manual by The Reverend George A. Kelly.

    It explains this pretty well.

This is the book our priest used as our homework for "marriage prep".
Kepha, if you haven't read it and are interested, there should be several copies available at St. J's.

    1) Yes I have read it. I actually own it. The Priest at my church ordered a bunch of them and gave them to members of the Church. It's really good.

    2)  :rahrah: FW is awesome.

  • Thank you, PFT, MaterDominici, and Zenith. What is FW, by the way?

MaterDominici, believe it or not, I had checked out The Catholic Marriage Manual from St. Joseph's library before. Recently, I bought three used copies of it through Amazon.com. I bought one for myself, and one each for my parents as anniversary gifts. :D
