  • That other thread is way too crowded already, but I wanted to share this with Trad Guy just in case he was not already aware of such things.

To tell you the truth I always cared more for athletics than acedemics so that is probably why I put physical fitness and physical attraction first.

Modern couples don't usually have plans for more than a couple of kids, so reduced fertility isn't too hot of a topic, but with your desire for many children and a physically fit wife, this is something you (and the future her) should at least be aware of.

Note that those who had problems with fertility moved from the 7% average up to 24% simply by training to exhaustion (regardless of the frequency of training). But, of course, most of us know that moderate physical activity is beneficial for overall fertility. And, so, like many things, moderation is key! Plus, hard training has no long-term ill effects, so if you're a woman and not yet married, you don't have to worry about it.

  • It's also very important to be aware of the Harvard study that linked a daily serving of high fat dairy, such as ice cream, with increased fertility.

I'm practicing for the future right at this very moment with some cookies&cream.  :-)

     :roll-laugh2:

That would certainly be a much more relevant study for me! (unfortunately?  )

I'm not much of an ice cream addict, but the generous amount of cream cheese on my bagel would certainly qualify.  :chef:

  • I cut out white flour and HFC as much as possible many years ago. I still did make mixes with white flour though and added my own whole wheat flour.

We received food from a food bank not too long ago and I could not believe how much HFC , sugar, or white flour there was in almost everything they gave us.

The ice cream was just a fun splurge resulting from a coupon/sale match. :)

I definitely try to avoid  HFCS and limit any processed sugars.

GMO is almost impossible to avoid entirely, but worth being aware of.

Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame are especially frightening, and fertility wise, both men and women should avoid consuming processed soy.

As far as the original topic, it is good to care about health/fitness, but as the OP link points out, there are health risks to over exercise, and girls who take it that far are likely either highly competitive with their athleticism, or they struggle with vanity. In other words avoid gym rat girls, or at least unreformed ones.  They might not prioritize fertility over competition or looks.

Being fit can be beneficial for a healthy pregnancy, but hopefully a loving husband won't be expecting jumping jacks and push ups at say, 34 weeks pregnant with baby # 6...lol

Well that explains it then.  It's all in the Phish Food....
