If there's one thing that I can't stand, it's people A) wanting change and B) wanting to force others along with the change. If you like the path from rural --> mid-size city, why not move to an existing mid-size city so you can be happy from day one? Why move to a small town and then try your utmost to "grow" it into another mid-size city with fast food, cookie-cutter subdivisions, traffic lights, etc.?
I've seen this happen so many times, in so many different areas of life, that I've noticed the pattern. People move somewhere, and want to make the place just like where they moved from. Huh? Or they itch for change, so instead of changing their location, house, church, etc. they want to stay where they are, and have their existing location, house, or church do the changing. Doesn't seem fair to me.
A great example of this is the SSPX. We already have a Tridentine Mass group approved by Rome, with a regular situation vis-a-vis Rome. It's called the FSSP. Why don't all the bishops, priests, and faithful who are convinced this is the "way to go" leave the SSPX and join the FSSP? But instead, they want to convert the SSPX into the FSSP II and force the rest of us along for the ride -- depriving the world of the old "SSPX" option in dealing with the Crisis in the Church.
It's like a malcontent teenager (over 18) still living at home and complaining about the house rules. What does every parent tell them? "If you don't like it here, you can always move out." It's like not enough people got told this by their parents. They want all the advantages of change, without having to inconvenience themselves AT ALL or lift a finger to achieve that change.
