  • I'm sorry but one thing that is really unattractive to me besides tattoos on a woman, bimbos, swingers, or feminists is a woman who does not exercise and who is uh...well need I say more. I mean I just shudder everytime I see one. Oh and by the way this is not a vendetta against women I think both sexes should be physically fit and active, and I also am angry at men not exercising these days but it's just really one of my pet peeves when I walk in a store or around town.

  • IMO your post is superficial and judgemental. I'm morbidly obese, fat does not = no exercise. I walk 2 miles three to four times a week. I swim for a good hour at least three times a week. I don't  eat a lot of junk food, hot tea with a spoon of sugar is all the processed sugar I consume. I know plenty of overweight women that work on their family farms, they are getting physical activity all day long.

Exercise doesn't prevent obesity unless it is steady and constant, the sort of exercise that someone engaged in hard labor is undergoing.

90% of weight loss is diet.

Slow and steady wins the race.

  • Telesphorus is capable of posting on a subject like this without saying anything petty, shallow, or offensive.  Perhaps he could give lessons in this skill...

  • Now you know why I am more hated than Tele on this forum. Oh and I like physically attractive women. How is that shallow?

In all honesty though women and men shoiuld both do rigorous physical exercise at least 2 hours a day, and I agree about diet as well, along with other unhealthy habits.

  • How does one draw the line between fitness and vanity?

I workout a lot and stay very physically fit, but for mothers 2 hours a day is a lot. I would feel that is excessive time spent on myself. Because I'm not looking to lose weight I don't think I need that much. I'm nursing too, so I use up calories that way.

I also don't want to exercise so much that it negatively  impacts my future fertility. For women with low body fat, 2 hours of rigorous exercise might stop ovulation.

  • There is nothing wrong with liking a fit attractive female.

Obesity= a woman that does not exercise or is active is what I am responding too.

As far as eating that depends on the person too. My teen could eat all day long and never gain a pound. I watch my calories and the pounds still appear.
I do have a few young male friends that are heavy but  I work selling diet and exercise equipment. I've noticed often times men don't seem to have the problem with gaining easily and trouble getting it off  until they are in their fifties. If I have a customer that is a young man he is usually buying it for a woman.

  • Tiffany that is because in your teenage and young adult days you have a high metabolism and don't really have to worry about your weight.

Dogmatic Rubbish! I remember a time when rigorous physical exercise was not even considered, and there was not as much obesity. It was enough to do an honest day's work. Oh! and we didn't have a car.....

Who in their right mind would devote 2 hours a day to rigorous physical exercise? Certainly not someone set on becoming a saint!

  • Be careful!  There are reason for holding weight when it is NOT our fault.  I am speaking for women.  One reason:  baby shots are linked to obesity. Another is emotional/stress.  If there is any surgery; tubaligation, loss of uterus will change the metabolism.  There maybe other reasons not known.  Some may have to be on a drug that may cause the holding of weight.  I know that  many people loved Kate Smith, who was a most beautiful singer. Chirp!

  • I never struggled with my weight until I hit my 40s.  Having two babies since I turned 40 has destroyed my body!  However, I try to eat properly and exercise as much as I can.

Many women, after 40, experience weight gain because of hormones.  It just happens and there isn't much to do about it.

In years past, though, people didn't really exercise like we do and I don't remember much obesity.  There is something else going on besides not exercising.

I don't drink soda or eat bread.  I don't eat cereals or processed foods.  No pasta or rice.  I have a little sugar in my morning coffee.  No donuts, cakes, or cookies.  I don't eat fast food, either.  I don't drink a lot or smoke.  I eat meat once a day and sometimes not at all.  No crackers or chips either.  Yet, here I am battling obesity.

So before you judge harshly, consider that maybe people are doing the best they can with what resources they have.

The problem is not the bread, cereals, rice etc. If you eat whole grain you will be better off, because you will be getting the correct nutrition.

My husband makes all our bread, starting with  whole wheat which he grinds himself immediately before making the dough. We eat a lot of brown rice. It is delicious not tasteless like the white stuff. It takes double the cooking time. Just put it on earlier.

  • Cathmomof7 is correct.  Hormones/ lack of cause weight gain of  15 to 20 lbs and no one likes that.  It just happens.

The warrior saints probably spent more than 2 hours a day in exercise.
