God is the same as He was in the Old Testament.

it seems for our sake He became human and lower than the angels so that our sins could be forgiven seventy times seven for He said "I have come to save the world not to judge it" - jimc

God is infinitely merciful, but we must be careful not to take His mercy for granted.  We must be sincere when we repent and have a firm purpose of amendment, in order to receive forgiveness and mercy.
The business of the Christian is nothing else but to be ever preparing for death. — Irenaeus Of Lyons

True, God forgives always if we honest seek Him and repent....must keep a good balance on God's role as Judge/punisher vs God's role as merciful savior......
