My dad is a quarter polish and I showed him this meme: he a had a great uncle Stan, there were crucifixes on the wall, and on occasion people mispronounce our Polish last name. My dad paused and looked at me while reading the stuff about what Polish grandmas do and told me, "we're not that Polish " :laugh1:

His grandpa's parents immigrated to Chicago from Poland then made the trek to Minneapolis. his grandfather ended up marrying an Irish woman. Then my dad's dad married a Scandinavian who had to convert to marry and she's the only one in his family that plays accordion! I'm sure you've heard that meme where being mixed race in the Midwest means being half Slavic/Half Germanic.

I remembered something funny while typing this. One time after Mass I reminded Father that I sent him an email and I mentioned my email handle was my first name and last name. my last name being Polish. He proceeded to tell me a story where one day as he exited the chapel he sneezed violently and some random lady off the street identified him as Polish based off his sneeze. He is of Dutch heritage but that was so random lol

There is a local TV journalist (in Texas, I believe) whose last name is Przybyl.

In Polish, it would be pronounced something like "shhh-buhw", but she pronounces it... "prizzible", to rhyme with "risible".

If she went to an especially erudite college, I have to wonder if her friends called her "Risible Prizzible".

No, it would be “anglicizing”. “Anglicanizing” would be naming a son Trey, or Chad, or something like that. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist that one.  I have any Episcopal prep school near me, I know what I’m talking about 😊
