Don't you think it's obvious and doesn't require discussion?

Anyway, there are clearly degrees, scales, etc, of suitability.

What's important is for women to NOT focus on career ahead of marriage and family, if they intend to marry.

  • Tele hit the nail on the head. Women don't need to be anything if they intend to marry.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

What if her husband dies?  She might end up in a situation whee she needs marketable skills.

  • There are some things a woman should always refrain from...  the lewd occupations, the dangerous occupations, the spiritually harmful occupations.

Even occupations that require long separations from family.  Trucking, for example.  Unless she's team driving with her husband.

Working in many medical fields, even though those are "caring" fields is so morally compromised today with abortion and birth control.

The Church teaches that the woman may get a job outside the home if she has no other choice (such as if, as you mentioned, she becomes a widow). But if by "marketable skills" you mean she needs to work prior to having kids just because she MIGHT be put in such a situation, that does not make sense.

She might need to work before marriage, if she marries when older.  For all she knows, she might not marry at all.

I don't see what the problem is with a married woman having a job when first married, while waiting for children to come.

In additions to all the careers already mentioned:

Having a career in professional sports. They are all either to manly for a female (such as basketball, soccer, etc..) or else they require immodest dress (ie. tennis, running, ice skating, swimming, gymnastics, etc..).

    Yes, Spiritus is right.

    Jaynek,

It would show a deep distrust in Divine Providence for a woman to work or train for work just because she fears that her future husband might die.

Also, such a line of reasoning is both illogical and ludicrous.

It would probably just be an excuse because she simply wants to work instead of doing the will of God.

  • Obviousy there will be exceptions to this, such as a girl who is needed by her Family.
