Why is it that many young sspx couples yearn to move to St Mary's? What's its allure?

I think they want to find a place to protect themselves from the modern world and to "bunker-down", with other devout Catholics.  But after the SSPX is handed over to newChurch, St. Mary's will lose its unique position as a frontier town defending the one true Faith.

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • Having homeschooled my own children I'm a big supporter of it but I do recognize that not all women have the temperament for it.  It can be quite a challenge to organize 7 different grades for 7 different children.  At least in a classroom the teacher is dealing with 7 of the same grade.

I would not think less of a woman who chooses to send her kids to a school rather than teach them at home.

  • I do not think that it is wrong for parents to wish to have their children grow up in more of a traditional Catholic society.  I can totally see how if I had children I would want them to grow up around people whom I trusted an felt would be a good example for them.

However, at the same time, I think that since there are so few of us in the world; it is better that we are a bit spread out so that more people may possibly be touched by the light of the Faith and save their souls.

One other thing of note...  I have noticed that many who are raised in the traditional Catholic Faith and in a traditional Catholic society often take it for granted, or don't appreciate it for what it is...

It (St. Mary's) was the worst place I've lived in my entire life. And I'm a cradle Catholic, trad of 12 years.

We can echo almost the identical sentiments, having spent a decade in Post Falls.  I grew to hate the place for a number of the same reasons which Ascetik lays out.
