  • My brother, a non-Catholic protestant, has recently shown some interest in the Catholic faith. Can anybody point me to any Catholic materials that might help bring about his conversion?

I want him to know of the Catholic Church, not the Vatican II Church, so I'm looking for articles or videos I can send him which illustrate the traditional Catholic faith and perhaps even cover some of the controversies over the Second Vatican Council and the conciliar popes.

  • My experience with RCIA is that converts, primarily those who are not entering due to marriage, do not join to become protestants.

They join because they have an impression of the "Ideal Church".

A lot of protestants going through the program are disillusioned after a few weeks but continue to march through the process and listen to baloney spewled by the RCIA director and team members. More conservative sponsors sit back tight lipped knowing that they will get reamed if they stand up for the truth.

Heck, in the last NO parish I was at I was made to sigh a contract agreeing that I was not allowed to "teach". Here I am a person who had sponsored others and have about 5 years experience with team on RCIA and been a Catholic, baptized as an infant, for nearly 5 decades and I am not allowed to "teach" the person I am sponsoring.

Tell your brother to parish shop and interview the RCIA director and get a finger on the way the priest thinks.

Make sure he is not getting a watered down version of Protestantism or a shake and bake RCIA program.

  • Those are good news about God drawing your brother unto Himself, the Catholic Church, the only true Faith.

    The Lord is good!

I have found this website to be a comprehensive fountain of information on the teachings on the Catholic Church, as well as the problems after Vatican II:

     http://www.willingshepherds.org/Willing%20Shepherds%20of%20Jesus%20Christ%20HOME.htm
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • The best thing you can do to help your brother is to live the holiness that God is calling you to live.

  • I am the only Catholic in my family.  I have often thought of what resources I might use to guide them in the right direction.  Each person is different and I believe that each person will be drawn to the Truth in individual ways. Four Witnesses by Rod Bennett (Ignatius Press) might be a good introduction introduction into the earliest of the Church fathers.  It points out through their writings that the very earliest Christianity  was Catholic.

The other resource might be the Archbishop's Letter to the Confused Catholic.

In the end, I think that the most important thing that you can do is to live the Faith well and pray.

  • Every person is different.  I would go to Tanpublishers who have many books from the history of the church to saints books. Most of the history books are not Vatican II.  Also www.JoyfulCatholic.com has many good books that have imprimaturs as far back as 1850-1872 and such and are newly printed, but untouched, no changes and are they ever so nice!  I especially like the ones to do with the Precious Blood.
When I was young, I was drawn to the miracles of the saints.  The video, of the Song of Bernadette, or the Scarlet and the Black, I think that is the title.  In the Spirit of Chartres Committee, there is a video of "What we have Lost", meaning what the New Order destroyed.  Very good and price is small for a 30 min video that breaks your heart for what we have lost.

Make sure he has absolutely no dealings with RCIA. It is a newchurch construct. Do not darken the door of any NO church.

I remember being impressed with willingshepherds as recommended by Cantarella.

I would depend very much on your brother's nature and present needs but this looks good. http://traditionalcatholic.net/Tradition/Information/index.html Webmaster is a poster here.

He might wish to join this forum as well. A lot of people come here to learn.

http://www.catholicapologetics.info/ is very useful. It should keep him going for a long time to come.

  • You should direct him to MHFM, since it is the only organization that defends the Catholic faith whole and inviolate these days.  Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation: www.schismatic-home-aloner.com

Pray the 15 decade Rosary everyday.

  • In spite of all the problems that are apparently on the Fish Eaters forum, they do have an information section on the website directed specifically towards protestants.

    link

Perhaps you could print off some of the info and give it to him or use it as a reference to answer his questions.

I second the recommendation to stay away from ANY novus ordo establishment.
