It's been about 4 1/2 hours since I've seen a grown woman in a bikini. A young woman, certainly, but grown and with a child of her own.

I do see a lot more of the skirted tankinis,  (my friend calls them "mommy suits") but bikinis are still everywhere.

Had I not starting going to mass again when I was pregnant, getting spiritual counsel, and praying the rosary, I would have likely thought nothing of this matter.  I probably would have continued wearing bikinis as long as I could get away with it.

Lord Jesus Christ, most merciful Saviour of the world, we humbly beseech You, by Your most Sacred Heart, that all the sheep who stray out of Your fold may in one days be converted to You, the Shepherd and Bishop of their souls, who lives and reigns with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end.

  • When I go to the beach I just wear a pair of shorts to my knees or a skort, with a short sleeve top & call it a day.  I want to be unnoticeable.  If you are wearing something out of the ordinary one way or the other, you call attention to yourself.  Not good.

  • As far as swimwear is concerned, I suggest wearing a bathing suit that comes with a skirt or wear a pair of shorts over it.  Whether or not you wear a shirt is your own decision.  I think you should keep in mind whether or not you'll be doing any actual swimming.  If you're out in the ocean, you're going to want something that won't hamper you too much or you may get into trouble.

I don't think I can weigh in on the discussion about whether or not to go to a public beach, as I haven't been to one (during swim season) after my conversion to the Faith and haven't given much thought as to whether or not it's an occasion of sin.  I'll definitely think and pray about it now.

As far as skirt length is concerned: if you can sit in it easily without being immodest, then it's long enough.  Just because it's a little over the knee when you stand doesn't mean it's easy to sit in.  When I'm trying on a new skirt, I always like to sit in the bench in the dressing room to give it a test.

I think a lot of good advice about the job situation has been given, so I won't comment on that.

The issue with the skirt swimsuits that you buy at a regular store is that the length of the skirts is often the same as a miniskirt. It seems a little odd to buy a skirt that is the same length as items I've  sworn off ever wearing again.

I don't see myself absolutely  needing a suit right now, so I'll just pray on this and reevaluate as needed.

Thanks though Antonia. :-) Love hearing of other converts!

I am praying about this a lot because I have a family gathering coming up and we are supposed to go boating.

Well that went horrible.  I thought I looked really cute and summery, but my cousin immediately asked me where my swimsuit was. My Dad answered by saying the cult I was joining doesn't allow them.

Unfortunately, that was probably the least blasphemous comment I received all day.

Oh well. Just a few more hours of family time and then I have approximately one year before I have to deal with it again.

  • It can be exceptionally draining to be a sign of contradiction among NO family members, especially at large family gatherings.  I have been dealing with this issue for 15 years; so, I have much compassion for you, PW.

That's why I'm saying you have to take it slow and be cautious around family members.  You are alone and that level of animosity can demoralize you to the point of giving up.  A balanced, middle of the road approach is essential, especially when dealing with non Trads.   This is a religion hostile world.

I am really sorry that happened to you.

  • Thanks everyone.  It's hard to find "middle ground"  sometimes, but I'm okay. I did what felt right. That's all that matters.

  • Penitent, you have a good attitude so thank God for the graces He gave you to be able to withstand that onslaught.  He is drawing you closer to Him and this was a test & it looks like you passed!!  Rejoice & be glad!  This narrow path can get a little rocky but there's always little flowers that will delight you along the way -  Did your little girl have a good time?

  • Thanks,Thorn.

It was fun to show off my daughter to relatives she doesn't see much. I didn't let her go on the pontoon, which offended my Dad and his mistress because they bought her a cute pink life vest. I promised we would make use for it another time.

Two things she now loves: sand in her toes and tasting watermelon. :)

  • I should clarify. I don't ever want to appear that I show off the fact that I have an illegitimate child. I just meant that it does feel nice to share with people how beautiful she is.

She also takes the focus off of me and what my life is like these days.  My Grandma can't take a hint about prying/meddling.
